Got back home a little after 9pm last night after some drama on the Eurotunnel... the dosey bint parking us, decided that the Porsche behind me should acquaint itself with my rear bumper!!!!

So not only did we have a 90 minute delay going out and another 30 minute delay coming back, we then had to stand around for another 20 minutes filling out paperwork, taking details and photographs of the damage (grazed rear bumper, displaced front valence).

To make matters worse, one of the train crew told the occupants of a second Porsche to, "get off the train dickheads!"

I'll be staying in contact with the Porsche drivers and we will all be looking for compensation/refunds and repair costs!!!!!

I know its a fast and efficient way to get over to France, but it seems that when it goes wrong, by Christ it goes wrong. Went out to Calais to fill up the cellar on Saturday. An hour and a halfs delay because of an earlier failed train.

The terminal was utter chaos. It was hell on earth.

Going back was just as it should be. Turned up, got ticket, got on train. Back in Folkstone.

I do wonder about going back to the ferries after Saturday mornings shenanigans.

I travelled with SeaFrance, lovely ferry on the way back. On the return journey we were booked on the 23:45 on Sunday but early enough for the 23:00 crossing. They charged us an extra £15 for the priveldge.

Now had the check in people said would you like to pay an extra £15 for a ferry with no hot food, or draught beer, I might have caught the ooriginal ferry!

The was some over officious tw@t at the French Eurotunnel side yesterday, dark curly hair, glasses, looked like he had more than 5 baguettes for lunch etc- we were booked on the 17;36, and he moved loads of cars for that train into the wrong lanes. Then he decided to make a very poorly aston db5 move out the way for some cars to get around and onto the train. But his colleagues had closed the barrier for the lane then declared the train full. Then he told people to go left when they should have gone right, a TVR and an RS2 both got sent the wrong way and i dont know what happened to them.
A member of my party went up and gave him several large garlic breathed mouthfuls, and miraculously, 3 extra cars and some bikes got on the train??? And there was another space behind us in the carriage. WTF was that about ? were they going to send a train with 3 spaces ?

I appreciate it must have been an extremely busy weekend, but morons like that ruin the reputation of what is generally an excellent service.

Ferry is much more relaxing. And SeaFrance has good food too! Was booked on the 23:00 but arrived early enough for the 21:00 and changed for 14 EUR. Had a nice meal on the way over and then fully refreshed for the drive home

I cant fault Transmanche on the Newhaven-Dieppe crossing. OK, four hours, but time for hot food and a short nap

And T1GRM (met you at Indianapolis Friday - fat bloke with the Tommy helmet on )

Euro tunnel sucked this year. What have they replaced their helpful staff with those stupid machines for?? What a hold up they caused at both sides of the crossing. Got to the crossing early at 1500 in the hope to get an earlier train but had to wait for the 1730 we were booked on only to find after driving down to get on that they couldn't fit us on so we still ended up getting a later train

we got to the station friday night in plenty of time to get on the 22.15, ended up being made to wait till 23.30, bit rubbish, but, whatever, still got to France.....

on the way back Sunday night my Da was driving and 'pressing on' we were booked on the 2.00am train but made it there in time for an earlier train, turned up, cruised on the train and ended up back home in England 2.05am....

so, mixed bag, would rather not have had to wait on the way out, but since we managed to get home a lot earlier than originally planned with no hassle cant really say much bad...

Well be very glad you weren't on the 23:00 then! No hot food and minimal cold foot available. I paid extra to move from the 23:45 to the 23:00 ferry and wished I hadn't!

Booked on 17.06 monday, arrived at 13.30 and told they could get us on 15.36 so this didn't work out to bad.

We could have rung and booked a place on an earlier service but they would have charged £50 for this.

No problems going out as we arrived about 40 minutes before our time and went on booked train.

Agree with comments about auto machines, I have used Eurotunnel many times in the past and the staff were always helpful and have always managed to get on an earlier train than booked, machines were a pain.

Have to say that the SpeedCat from Boulogne was superb. The guys seeing the cars on and off were very carefull and were ensuring that spoilers etc. weren't going to ground. Bloody quick things as well, one of our party had his GPS with him and measured 42mph.

Another vote for the SpeedFerries service here. Very considerate with all the cars for both crossings, and a nice quick crossing too!

Mixed bag from Speedferries. On way out they were excellent. I had told them when booking my ticket that I had low ground clearance and they put me on the flat bit of the boat. On way back I told the girl on the check in desk that I needed to be on the flat but ended up being told to go up a ramp. Short of getting out, having a row and making 50 other cars reverse there was little I could do. Sure enough ended up getting grounded. To add insult to injury my brother's Citroen which has about 3' ground clearance ended up on the flat bit.
