Alternative Route to classic Le Mans
Discussion
Just have a look at a michelin map, look for D roads which aren't straight and if preferable run through hilly areas, then Bob's your Uncle.
They're normally pretty quiet and good fun, came back from holiday last year through France and did 500 miles on D roads, averaged over 50 mph, which is pretty good going for a Leon Diesel, including slowing down for towns and villages.

Hi,
The following route has been used for most of the last five visits
and is recommended highly, needs a good navigator though.
Get your Michelin Map out and try and follow the following:
Take the A16 as far as ABBEVILLE
then take the A28 as far as NEUFCHATEL EN BRAY
then you are on the small roads I'll not list all the numbers
but just follow the roads to the following
FORGES LES EAUX
ARGUEIL
LA FEUILLIE
LYONS A FORET (usually take coffee break here)
ECOUIS
LES ANDELEYS
LA NEUBOURG
CONCHES EN OUCH
L'AIGLE
MOULINS LA MARCHE
MORTAGNE AU PERCHE
BELLEME
ST COSME EN VIRAIS
BONNETABLE
SAVIGNE L'EVEQUE
CHANGE
ARNAGE
Great minor roads and the minimum of gendarmes etc
always works for us.
If I can be of any further help just let me know.
Have fun, counting the days to next year.

Hey, that's my patented route going back many years! I'll vouch for it being a cracking drive, some great twisties, and some long straights. The exit you need from the autoroute is number 10 i.e. Sortie 10. The route's so good I named myself after it!
