I thought I'd start early. We travelled down on Thursday last year and an entire year's worth of salivating and expectation of hitting the N138 and having another 'drive of your life' moment evaporated as we soon realised there were precisely no other Le Manners on it.

What on earth happened there? I know the new Autoroute was open but having had the most wonderful and engaging (ok, fast, full of exquisite cars and riddled with overtaking) drive down in '05 the difference couldn't have been more marked. It was crap!

So the only way to make it good and right again is for everyone to get back on the N138 and restore it to the Road of Joy that it rightfully is.

See you there!

Indeed. Driving on the French Autoroutes gets boring very quickly due to lack of traffic, and I find the time passes incredibly slowly when your mind isn't concentrating on hundreds of other cars around you like in the UK.

The northern section of the new road where you go over the new bridges was spectacular, so I'm thinking of planning a route
that takes in those, then switching to the N138 for old times sake, then back onto the Autoroute to make up some time, and back
onto the N138 for the run into town.

Perhaps between us PHers we can work out which sections of the N138 are worth travelling on, and which are joyless bypasses.

We was on the N138 on the Thursday. Must admit we didn't see many others. Nest year there will be eight in our little convoy, again on the N138.

Everyone will be on the N138 next year after all the speed traps hehe

Personally I enjoy a drive across the north coast, lunch in Honfleur then across to Rouen and the N138, the first part is quiet and great fun. But don't go telling everyone about it

Your right Thursday this year the N138 was incredibly quiet.

Our little convoy of 5 cars caught up with a couple of RX8's and we all had a very
spirited drive to Beaumont-sur-Sarthe where we stopped for a cold beer!!!!

Be N138 again for us,be Wednesday though next year so even quieter.

I went down to the Classic Le Mans this year and the N138 was busier than 3 weeks earlier,i couldn't believe it.

I was just following other people, crapping myself in case my old Z broke down, and even I noticed an absence of funtastic hooning a la BM05 DVD :-)

(not that I'd have been able to keep up if any hooning HAD happened)

Hasn't it been renamed the N338 too or something? Did it on the way down as far as Beaumont so we could stop at the frite van, was indeed a bit quieter than previous years. At least now you've got the option of making up a bit of time I guess.

Was on the A28 on the Thursday, felt like we were the only car on it at times, didint see many Le-Mann-ers at all, not all bad though
as we witnessed an RS4 & 911 convoy at serious speed, defo license loser teritory

The A28 was even worse when on hols in September, didnt see any cars for ages, then again it was Sunday & lunchtime !

If I'm lucky enough to go in 07 it will N138

Here here, being locals, we sat outside the bar in St Jean d'Asse expecting to see everybody go past and lo.. next to nothing. Come on you lot, drive down the proper way.

For my first proper post I thought I would add my support to this noble cause. I will be doing the N138 the whole way from Rouen in an effort to return it to regain it's former glory. My car will be suitably stickered up in PH regalia and I should be accompanied by an 80's 911 carrera with a loud exhaust to add to the spectacle.

We drove down the N138 this year and had a great drive.

So we'll be doing it again next year.

Well this year was my first and on Snr Inigo's recommendation I used the 138. But it was a bit dull compared to some videos I had seen of the antics!

I hope next year it is back to its best.

Oh and Inigo Daz might spank you for being on here
