Not planning to attend the main event next year, will be at the Classic in 2008,however might incorporate the Test day into our 'alternative Le Mans road trip'.What's the atmosphere like at Test day ? busy/quiet/are facilities open.Let me know if you've been.

The facilities are reasonable but noticably fewer than on race weekend. I love the atmosphere myself as it's much more relaxed. Turn up the day before for scrutineering as you can get really close to all the cars - the pit walk is nothing like the bun fight it is during race week.

Planning on going to the test weekend and the race in 07.

A friend went a few years ago and said that you can camp on the inside by the Bugatti circuit, but the circuit has altered since. Did anyone go last year and camp, if so where were they situated.

I think we'll give it a go and make it the last night of our road trip on Sunday, hopefully we'll be able to get into a hotel near the Old Town which has quite a few good restaurants, the atmosphere should be better than the Chavfest/Stagfest that seems to be taking off some of the appeal of the main event (either that or I'm just getting old !).
Are there any free viewing areas or do you need a ticket at all locations ?

If you have a ticket for the race proper, you can just walk in with it. Otherwise, pay on the gate. All the grandstands are open to all except the ACO one (which you can go in if you are a member). Beware, if you are having your race tickets sent direct to the UK, then they may be in the post while you're in France. So if this is the case you should ring the ACO and say you'll collect them which you can do at the ticket office in the ACO shop under the members grandstand on the Friday of pre quali.
