Was looking through some videos this week and came across one of the houx annexe roundabout films.

Cued me to do a little research and obviosuly brought me here.

Now, I've been to various WRC's, touring cars etc etc, so know what to expect from most motorsport events. But.. I never knew about the whole Le Mans thing? It looks an absolute HOOT!

Like a music festival, but with v12's instead of guitars?

Seriously, Ive been browsing lots of webpages, never really knew what goes on other than the actual 24hr race...

I have a new plan. 2008 - I am going to Le Mans...bounce

Get the ferry booked, tickets on the gate and pick up a BSJ camping ticket from the ACO. You could be all booked up by the middle of the week and enjoying LM07 come June time.

yes

And it gets better each year as you learn more. Even if you turn up on friday night and head back after the race as a scout for next year it would be worth it. I deffo recommend doing this!!!

We're talking what, 700 mile drive from Leeds?
I would have to find some mates willing to come but you never know...

You've never heard of it!!!

Get yourself to this year.

Try the distance of 17 F1 races back to back and at a greater average speed

You wont regret it.

NOW GET SWOTTING UP!

No, course I'd heard of it! Watched it on telly a few times, usually catch the results in the press the week after etc...

But I didnt realise that so many people go and stay over. I kind of presumed there was jsut a few people milling around in some grandstands Sat afternoon, Sun morning.

Edit - just read some of the other threads ( Which crossing? ) even the drive down looks like a hoot!

I've never driven on the continent so have no idea what it entails, even if im allowed to?!

I think my rusty old escort may get overshadowed by the rest of the exotica...laugh

I wouldn't worry too much as your rusty old escort will pass all the exoticia whilst they are either queuing at the petrol station, broken down, or paying the Gendarmes large amounts of Euros!

Any tell I am bitter that my Impreza has been replaced with a diesel Sante Fe?!

Aye its a bugger when there is only 2 petrol stops there and we needed to use both of them to make the journey down.... And the saw Warren stuff Richard's Sagaris into the Armco at 10-15mph.... resultant damage wrote of the car... Ouch.... But being dressed as Batman and Superman made it all the more interesting!!! yes

280000 were there in 2006.

Still got 25 spaces in my private campsite. Several PH members coming plus loads from other online forums. Send me an email if you want to come!

Ballpark figure of 700 miles sounds about right. I've done it the last few years in the Vette from Sheffield and it's not too bad at all. Break up the drive down with a kip near Dover and you're all set for a belting weekend.

As for convincing mates thats not too much of a worry. The number of folk on here advertising what crossings, what camp sites, what routes etc you'd not be alone at any point of the run.

Next excuse.......

Well after a night of research and calling up mates - I think I may be onto a winner for this year!

Im pleasantly surprised at how I've costed it aswell...apparently its like a music festival but with Cars not Guitars... sounds brill.

Really hoping to pull this off now, gonna take the details round to my mates tomorrow see what they say...
I guess i only need one person to go down with though!

Many thanks to e36guy aswell clap

Err, why?

I did it by myself last year, and am going solo again this year too. Last year was out of necessity - I couldn't get a passenger into my Westfield with all of the sh1te I was taking! That's from Northern Ireland as well, so it wasn't exactly a short journey with a 17hr ferry crossing each way!

Just get it booksed and do it man!!!

You know what, your right.

E36guy has made me a very good offer, and its priced per car, not per person, as is the ferry, so it doesn't really make much difference. I think im gonna book it, then see whoever wants to come we can just pay the surcharge, and the price per person will drop.

Sod it. I havent been on holiday in nearly 4 years.

Im going to Le Mans.

Good lad. You won't regret it (except for the fact that going once isn't enough and from now on every June your bank balance and liver will take a pasting)

Worth it though!

Top marks! Also, on the evening of the race they have a concert just at the side of the Dunlop Bridge. Last year The Charlatans played - although we missed this having a pig roast at the Corvette campsite. So you do get a bit of music to go with the cars.

@snotrag

We have a really great bunch of people in our group coming so don't worry about being on your own. Last year everyone managed to gell pretty well and some good friendships and even a new boyfriend/girlfriend partnership came about! They are coming again as a couple this year! Awwww!

Anyway, there will be a lot of people who are at Le Mans for the first time not to mention other Pistonheads members who I would situate you next to on camp so you will have no shortage of people to hang out with. There will also be more seasoned Le Mans veterans there who can point you in the right direction re where to go and what to see etc.

I've done no work all day. I'm so excited...!

I love the whole roadtrip aspect, I've done 700 miles trips within the UK before, quite proficient at that! side of things.

Never driven on the Continent before, last time was as a kid in my Dads 1984 Renault Espace, 7 up, 5 bikes on the roof, driving from Calais to the South coast every summer. Broke down about 12 times a trip. Ah the memories!

Must check out the insurance situatuion, pretty sure im covered for 30 days, and breakdown aswell (touchwood)

Hope to have a new motor by then anyway... I have a feeling these guys are all going to start trying to sell me BMW's...
