is anyone using this crossing ? we are on the overnight one wed 13th jus wondering as no one seems to be going this route is there something i should know ?

We've been over on that one in the past, it was full of Le Man-ers. I do like the overnight boats from Pompey for atmosphere and the easy trip on the other side but we've had to switch to Speedferries to save cash.

Ballon, myself and Wapping on the same boat. Always use this crossing - top feasting and quaffing opportunity to get the party started. Almost exclusively Le Mansters apart from a few baffled OAPs.

Two bars to be precise and two restaurants. The trick is to jump in the queue for the posh restaurant as soon as you board it is v popular and if your don't get in the queue you're knackered, or there is the self service restaurant.

We then normally retire for further attitude adjusters after dinner

Don't know about the ferry from the UK but I go to St Malo from Jersey. If you haven't been to St Malo before, it is nice to explore.

Once at St Malo, it only takes about 2.5- 3hrs to get to Le Mans. Out of Le mans head to Rennes then Laval and thats thats you into Le Mans. Easy.

The route in is often covered by speed checks.

Did the trip last year.. Left Thursday night crossing had a few drinks.
Left Le Man on Sunday drove to St. malo stayed in a hotel then Monday ferry back. However this year Port - St.malo on the way out but different route on the way back (it just takes so blooming long).

I've tried all different combinations of crossings. Which ever one you choose the atmosphere is great. I find the lengthy crossing more civilised. You've got time for a bite to eat, a few beers, AND some sleep before you arrive in france!

We're using the same crossing, never done it before, always did portsmouth le havre in the past so it'll be a change, good to have the heads up about the speed checks, i have a rather heavy right foot, looking forward to it now, only two sleeps
