How many people here have flown to Le Mans. Thinking of taking my little plane on its first cross channel flight. easy enough? or very busy. pretty low hours ppl.

Flippin' Heck! We are going to need a big space on Maison Blanche for that, all the cars a caravan and the gazebo!

Does this mean a sideline in 'View the race from the air?' scratchchin

Here is the airport site. Since the international language of the air is english I guess they'll be able to help you on this.

www.aeroport.fr/les-aeroports-de-l-uaf/le-mans-arnage.php

If you want to contact them by email there is the ability ot do so here

For commercial traffic yes, not the case for smaller local airfields. Not sure what Le Mans counts as, but I'm sure someone will pipe up with more detailed info

Can't help with any of the specifics, but a Jeppesen guide might come in handy:

I have to ask though, is flying to Le Mans the right way to get there? I found the drive there and back all part of the experience. I recon a better bet would be to see if you can hire a plane once you get there. The views flying over the circuit would be fantastic! Would give you a real sense of the scale of the event.

Some friends of ours have regularly flown into Le Mans in some sort of Cesna type plane.

They pick up a hire car when they arrive, so are mobile during the week.

I believe the only issue/hassle is that take-off slots on the Sunday evening are at a premium, so they usually leave at around an hour before the finish.

last year was certaibly an experience when the gearbox on the tuscan exploded just outside exeter! plus having driven for 2 years i am considering the flying option.

the tuscan is re-fettled, the M Roadster could eat the miles or the plane could be used to scare the sh1t out of denton!

decisions, decisions

edited to say - hello Matt - nice to see you in another forum!

Sounds like Corin has an added incentive for getting the Mexico finished on time!!!

What do you think your flight time would be? You could maybe pop home to Tesco for us incase we run out of HP sauce... byebye

have to do some careful W&B calculations and possibly plan a few refuelling places!

it would be good for sightseeing over the track though and could bring a whole new angle to mad friday!

Just thinking about the weather - if its poor and you don't have your instrument rating that could ruin your plans if you haven't got alternative arrangements for getting there.

@ obiwonkey....

Try asking at www.prunne.org.

It's the Private Pilots Rumour Network and forum. I think a couple there have flown down before.

Flying's fun Corin, you'll love it! Just ask Owen to try a steep turn followed by a spiral dive recovery and finish of with a Vne dive. Remal can tell you all about those manoeuvres

Wasn't there some shakedown testing of a Porsche going on at the local airstrip last year (after the first evening of testing)? I seem to remember some yellow lights ripping up and down the main runway during the late evening, accompanied by huge flames on the overrun bow

All very cool but does this imply there might also be fewer landing slots on the evening before the race than hoped?
