Just come back from a week in France. Saw plenty of Gendarmes pulling over Brits. I saw more of them this trip than I did when I went to Le Mans in 05.
COming back to the tunnel was a pretty well orchestrated trap. About 2 or 3 miles before the final toll booth before the tunnel there was a GEndarme with a laser gun on a tripod. I had just slowed down and so was able to ensure I was ok. BUT when we got to the toll booth to pay there were about 4 Gendarmes standing just the other side of the gates with lists of number plates waving tens of cars into a side road - these cars then disappeared round a corner where I assume they had set up to fine 100s of Brits. Watch out!

It just goes to show they're still sore about Waterloo. I've only once found a gendarme with a sense of humour - and that's when I was with a group of Elises haring around the track from Mulsanne to the Porsche Curves on the Friday before the race about 6/7 years ago. We got pulled over and expected the worst. Instead they asked if they could have their pictures taken with the cars. So we obliged and no more was said about our antics.

I ended up sending the picures to the gendarme and corresponded with him for a few years as he got pulled in from some remote province to do duty at LM each year - probably a froggy PH'er by now.

I have just returned from France also, were they all around Calais? I went on Speed Ferries and didn't see any around Boulogne.

There were a few out with speed guns in some of the villages around where we stayed and there seemed to be more fixed camera's about but they were well sign posted...

Must have been an "SAS raid" near the tunnel, as we also came back yesterday and were there at about 18:30 and saw nothing. No Gendarmes doing speed checks anywhere between Calais and Alencon, in fact...

They were doing it when I arrived and when I returned to Calais.
