Camping pitch size?? (newby question)
Discussion
Newby question here
How much room do you usually have for your tent/car in the campsite?
I know using our common sense and not being greedy is obvious, but im just curious as we have an 8 man tent, 2 cars (which I'd like to park at 90degrees to each end of the tent to make a U shape for us to have our BBQ's in...
From peoples past experiences (and mine at festivals etc) do people end up camping on the space of a postage stamp?
We are arriving Mid-Thursday so I think they will be a fair bit of space around when we get there, but want to know how crowded it gets like over the course of the weekend... I've got visions on V2006 where everyone's tents were on top of each other...
I keep finding loads of pictures of cars etc, but not many of peoples campsites... would be grateful for any pics posted...
(Im camping in Basejour)
Many Thanks

The ACO will tell you that each camping pass buys you 35sqm of camping space and the ability to take one car onto the site.
If you have more passes you are entitled to more space and as said above we believe currently spaces are not marked on the ground other than on Houx so you may use the space as you wish.
The above applies UNLESS the ACO have become uber-twitchy about the concept of leaving fire lanes between tents. For example the MB map for this year shows marked spaces in neat rows with fire lanes between them but we are told these are likely not to appear until next year when it will be fully allocated. The ACO are becoming increasingly concerned about fire and I wouldn't entirely put it past them to make changes for this year...
BSJ is about the only site you'll get into with much choice on Thursday, on the other sites you'd probably struggle to pitch two tents together by that point of the week.

Some people like to spread their tents out and park their cars decoratively infront,we then turn up and have to fight for a space. Also most people park next to the gravel roads and leave the middle section empty. We normally arrive at Houx Annex on thurs and ask people to move their cars so we can move into the middle. This year we are going on Weds so should be able to pick our spot.

If you park by the tracks your car gets covered in dust, on the other hand if you park in the middle you can get trapped in,not that it matters to us as we dont use the cars while we are there.
I think the only times we'll use the cars are to go to Arnage on Friday morning for the PH meet and then onto the supermarket.
Must admit I hadn't thought about what happens if we take the cars out and come back to find our parking spaces have had tents set up on....
many people slag off Airtrack for being expensive.
but they do offer good value for money:
i) 40m2 pitches all predetermined against your name and marked out.
ii) secure perimeter fence.
iii) 24 hour sentry with dog.
iv) on site bar.
v) clean, tidy showers with HOT water.
vi) easy access in/out of the circuit.
vii) not too dusty.
like me, you guys look forward to le mans for 51 weeks of the year ... why take the risk ?
just pay a little extra and try and guarantee a good spot for the best weekend of the year !

Hahah. Oh, you were serious.
None of the campsites are exactly big on shade - think big open field with no trees and your not far from the mark.

Well you get hot showers if that's what you mean, other than that it's a cold tap or a pan on the BBQ.

dUnfortunately I have to say I agree, Airtrack are waaaaay too expensive IMHO! Over £500 aren't they?! That's a huge price!!
I'm going with White Rabbit Racing and OK, so they are on Beausejour but they are fenced off with dedicated 24/7 security. Pitches are 50sqm per car and we're a group of several cars so we get ours marked together. OK so they've not got showers or a bar this year but we're getting FIVE cars in for that money!

dEach to their own but I think you're paying a hell of a premium over Houx for someone to wander around with a dog thats probably going to cock its leg on your tent anyway.
Sorry but £525 per car without anything else (assuming I'm reading airtracks website correctly) is not value for money in my book

We have always used our cars for trips out & about too on the Thurs & Friday.
In past trips ( camp Bleu ), had to use garden poles & the formentioned Tape to save our parking spaces.
Being using Camp Houx with reserved spaces for last two LM's, so poles & tape no longer needed !
