It is Friday, late afternoon/early evening, probably starting at around 5:00pm. Be warned: getting into central Le Mans and out while the parade is on is a complete disaster. Even though my son and I know our way around Le Mans pretty well and have an excellent street map, two years ago we got caught up in all the road closures, rush hour, Friday night etc and had really serious problems getting to our hotel in the middle of Le Mans. If you do want to see the parade and are driving, get there really early, have a few beers or so, get to the parade area have some more beers and get yourself back to your base at the end of the evening. Good luck! R.
Its a fairly long walk from the camping sites anywhere round the circuit into the centre of town. It would be easier, if slightly slower than driving though. We drove into town in '05 and it was a nightmare to get parked, get to the parade and then get back out to the campsite again!
There are buses that go from outside the main entrance (near to the rotunda). The parade starts at 6 so get to the bus stop about 4.30. Prob have to wait about 20 mins and the journey is about another 20. Takes you very close to the parade, it's easy. As stated before, get their a bit early to get some beers and a spot to watch from. Last buses back are just after 10, just check the timetable as you get off the bus on the way in.
Hi All,
We drove in last year, about 3 oclock in the afternoon just before they shut some of the roads, it only took 20 mins. If you park at the top of town above were the parade starts there's loads of spaces. The party got split up and 2 of us managed to get a taxi back to Arnage at about 3 in the morning, after a heavy night drinking in a some french night club. The atmosphere after the parade was excellent last year and I would recommend standing near the finsh as there is two pubs with tables and beer served cold outside plus a toilet where i got set up on by two 40 year old women, I did thnk about complaining to the police but took it as my duty to entertain these ladies, we managed to see all cars and even a cheeky smile from the Hawani Tropic girls.

In June 2006, a crack drinking unit was sent to prison by a kangaroo court for a crime they did not commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security relationship stockade to the Le Mans Underground, where they survive as soldiers of debts. If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them sober, maybe you can hire... TEAM STELLA

It's about 4 miles from the campsites to the town centre. As mentioned abouve, you can get a bus into town although it can be a bit of a bun fight getting on. Getting back is a different matter, as far as I'm aware there are no late night busses. It's about £20 for a taxi back but they're like hens teeth to get hold of.
Sadly they now board over the fountain and there is a large police presence to ensure nobody does so much as a wheelspin. However, there is a real party atmosphere in the town and it's certainly worth doing if you've not been before.

Please can a PHer living in the vicinity of Le Mans, eg cooperlola, post on this thread from what time the roads will be closed in central Le Mans on Friday for the parade? This will help a lot with the planning/timing of the run down from Calais etc. for people like me needing to to get to the centre of town that afternoon/evening. Thanks. R.
