... mate of mine has just come back from long weekend in France. He had driven his Golf R32 to Nice.

On the way back, about 60 miles from Calais, he got caught speeding by the rozzers and had to pay EUR 750. He also got banned from driving in France for 6 months.

As he was on his own, he also had to fork out EUR 250 for a husband and wife taxi "team" to get him to Calais.

Oh dear. Must have been going some to get fined that much. He wasn't the same R32 Driver from Clapham way that got pulled at the same time as me on the way back from Le Mans last year and also fined €750 was he?

The main difference between doing 120 in France and the UK is how quickly you get fined and banned then. Plus if you got caught for that speed in the UK you wouldn't be able to drive in France once banned. Expensive at the time in France though, but UK plates make no difference...

He's only banned in France because the authorities can't take his license away as he is not French... For French people a prison sentence is not that much further away...

Seems a bit harsh - prison just for being French... hmm, has some merits hehe

Same as what I got.

They may ask for more in future months. In fact they probably will.

The only good grace that I have is that I was doing an indicated 142, but they only caught me at 131mph. They needed to get the car started in time to get me. Basteweeds. laugh
