Under French law it's illegal to link alcohol with driving, so race/rally cars aren't allowed to display logos of any alcoholic drinks.

Do the Gendarmes mind if you have Martini (or whatever) logos on your ar as I assume it's technically illeagl too.

I'm afraid i can't help you with alcohol stickers, but i do remember reading that in light of the death on the Gumball this year France was refusing access to any cars that looked like they were on a rally of some sort. This mainly includes cars with race numbers on them. Hopefully this ain't true, I'll try and find the article i read it in. I'm sure they will not mind for cars going to Le Mans. Anyone heard anything similar?

My old car before Le Mans last year, didn't have the actual Martini logo, but fairly close.

Reckon they're too busy lining their pockets with 'speeders' to bother about stickers.

It would be a problem for me if it is true that they are denying access to cars that look like they're in a race. See profile - Gulf racing lookalike!!!!irked

That's fine, it has to have the actual brand on it to cause problems. I remember a few years back the Martini liveried Focus WRC cars on the Monte Carlo rally had to cover over all the Martini lettering when they went into France.

If I get some Martini stickers they'll only be little and I guess I could remove them, but it might be useful for others if we can bottom out exactly what the law says.

In my opinion it's going to be technically illegal and depends on how grumpy the BiB are.

I reckon, and this is only my opinion, this rule only apply to advertising, hence why all race cars and bikes have to cover/modify their logos when they race in france... One guy travelling about and not sponsored shouldn't be a problem, especially on a replica.

You will be fine to put them on your cars on the road. The laws are concerning TV advertising of alcohol and tobacco products (see F1 etc.), which is ironic given the French love affair with both...

It's not just TV, the same applies to billboards and other advertising media equally. Someone deciding to put Martini stickers on their car and someone being paid to put Martini stickers on their car would have the same effect on anyone who sees the car so I'm not convinced by that arguement.

Ho hum, having my car fully wrapped is out of my budget anyway, much as I'd like to have it covered in Martini livery so it's not a major problem!

Didn't one of the racing 911s have GO!!!ON! instead of Gordons last year? Nut sure where it stands on road cars though.

So surely by that logic, displaying anything associated with alcohol or tobacco anywhere would be illegal...
What about the shops, cafes and bars with he huge neon signs outside?
What about the bus shelter advertising I saw for Heineken beer when I was in Paris last weekend?

I think you may be worrying a bit unduly here...

It would be very dangerous for us to associate the French and logic yes

I believe the regs seam stronger on smoking rather than alcohol. You will see the sales sites in Le Man are only allowed to display Tabac.

You are allowed to have the roundels without numbers but if numbers are on the car then you must cross them out with tape so they know you aren't rallying.

No, the law only bans alcohol advertising when associated with driving. That means no adverts on racing cars and no posters or TV ads which might associate alcohol with a car in any way.
