With only 21 days left until we head off my co-driver has just told me he cant come!

Ive asked everyone I know to fill the place and as yet Ive had no takers.... and as it stands im going to be on my own on the journey down there. (2 car convoy)

Im going to give it one week before the ticket gets offered out to the masses.

and I thought it was going to be a smooth build up to le mans... frown

You have my sympathy!

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Got an answer Monday off my co-driver but managed to resolve it within a few hours. Bit of lateral thinking may be required.

I asked my sister if her fella would be interested and he jumped at the chance. Hardly speak to the guy but he loves motorsport and beer so fits the bill nicely.

Rochester BMW, if your co-driver does bail out make sure that you still go. Its just too good to miss!

My co-driver couldn't go last year so I ended up going by myself and still had a great time. Actually I'm heading down by myself again this year.

I just have to be carefull with the speeding. Getting an on-the-spot driving ban would be a bit of a disaster.

Roch - We've been going every year since '93. First off we had 3 up in a Lotus Excel - not reccomended, then 4 up in a 535i. After a few trips it reached the point where everyone just wants to hoon their own car so this year its 14 cars and 15 people biggrin

Whatever happens just get in your car and go. The first year we were sat in the pub in Welwyn Friday night 7pm. Someone mentioned that he'd heard Le Mans was on that weekend. Cue last minute tent purchase, fuelled up the Excel and caught the midnight ferry. Drive through the night and hit Le Mans early morning - Aye it t'were nearly all N138 then, none of yer fancy motoroads.

T'was the best Le Mans we ever did thumbup

Just make sure that if your ex - co driver comes back with his tail between his legs, that you tell him that the seat is now taken..Sorry!

Hey Rochester - you definately have my sympathy!

Since starting the ball rolling regarding arranging Le Mans - I initially had some 24 people interested - that quickly whittled itself down to 19.

Requesting deposits by the end of Feb and the balance by 20th April 2007 - I was STILL over a grand short on the 16th May!

I paid the final monies to providers just over a week ago - then two days after that - one of the Co-drivers(who hadnt given me a penny!) drops out! THEN his driver (who HAD paid) also drops out!

The cost of the whole trip(incl. Supplies Van costs,Beers,BBQ food,Hotel(sunday)) etc) was based on 19 people - so "drop-outs" effectively "up" the cost for those remaining! E.g. for YOU Rochester - the cost of petrol has just doubled thanks to your "drop-out"!!

All in all 6 people have dropped out & 2 have threatened too (but have since changed their minds).

This has been a BL**DY nightmare at times .......and only coz some of my group's LM veterans have stepped up to the plate and found replacements - have the overall costs remained the same! Phew!

Neil at Speedchills has the patience of a Saint - I can't thank him enough.

NEXT year - Im either going to be more selective OR the cut off date for dosh IS the deadline AND the deposit will increase AND will be TOTALLY non-refundable - even if a replacement is found.

Some people just don't appreciate what goes into arranging the trip - they'll just turn up on the day - and Hey Presto - as if by magic -

they're on the Ferry with tickets,camping passes,Race entry passes,Hospitality facilities booked,BBQ's loaded,Beer,Shower unit,Generator,Fencing,

Lighting,Coolbox- blah,blah,bla,blah,blah!!!!

Any way - RANT over!!! I'll get down of my soapbox!

BUT YES - Rochester -it IS a complete pain in the ar*e!!! I'm feeling p*ssed off for ya!

Good luck in finding someone to join you - and if you can't - offer the seat for sale amongst PHer's

Cheers. M

Roch, I've been to Le Mans solo on three occasions since 1996. This has been to plan as my son gave me ample notice he couldn't join me. On these occasions I've usually got Le Shuttle at around 10:00 pm Friday night, got to Le Mans Saturday at 04:00 slept in the car park until maybe 08:00 and then had a great time watching the race etc. On Sunday I've either left and driven back that day or gone to Falaise for an overnight crash out in a hotel there, travelling back Monday on quiet roads. Other than having my son with me, this cannot be beaten in my view. So, just go for it. R.

I need to get a definate (and less alchohol induced) answer out of him today but fingers crossed. lets hope he doesn't bail on me aswell...

He'd be mad if he does... Ive offered the ticket/camping/ferry costs to him for FREE!

isn't that annyoying, you can't give 'em away!!! As ButtMonkey Racer says, our usuall 30 strong group is down by almost half of it's co-drivers this year... my Passenger also bailed, although he has good reason so I'll let him off... but actually really looking forward to driving the journey on my own for once...

Dude, if your going down Thursday morning and want to hook yer 2 car convoy up with our 15 car convoy give us a shout...

we're on the 07.55 dover to calais.

theres a services just north of Bolounge (sp) where all the WRR cars are re-grouping. We're heading there to follow them down.

If you and your group fancy it how about coming aswell? a convoy of 50-60 cars will be an amazing thing to be part of.

Yay, 6 days before departure my wingman decided he can't afford the trip! I kinda saw it coming though...

If anyone wants to organise a last minute trip I have a space in my car leaving Tuesday at 2200, returning Monday at 1800, and a rather big tent with a spare bedroom in the WRR campsite.

Equally if someone doesn't wanna be in the back seat of a car I'm happy to have company!
