Do I need to call them and request going on the wider single deck train or will they point me in the correct direction on the day?

Also do you need to follow certain signs before you go through customs to do this or do they simply send you down to another part of the platform?

Cheers

The wider single deck carriages are the ones for coaches and vehicles over 1.85m. On Le Mans week-end they are often full, however it's not the end of the world going in a normal carriage ....you just have to run with one side of the car on the slightly raised footpath. I do it with my car.

Best to phone before hand and inform them as they will then put you in the high decks which house busses etc, they also do it for people with bike racks on the roof etc, but do call them as they may not have space for you if you dont.

I took the lambo last year in with the buses etc. i don't think the carraige is any wider than the normal one to be honest and is very tight. I was grimacing the whole way down as the year before I'd kerbed 2 of the 4 alloys on my 911 turbo. just go slow and you'll be fine.

Andy.

...it is def wider. The Lambo rear track literally has millimetres to spare in the normal carriages, hence the necessity to go on the foootway, however no prob at all in the coach section.

Whilst the overall width of the carriage is the same the raised walkways are wider apart in the bus carriages.

Go for the single deck , just follow the signs for buses etc. when entering the staging lanes. Single deck is much wider......and taller spookily enough. You just get mobbed by loads of school kids if our experience is anything to go by!

The power of PH, I was just about to ask the same question as I’m taking the new addition in the form of a DeTomaso Guara which is a mega 6’1” wide when it dawned me I could spend the weekend wedged inside a Eurotunnel carriage.

To the Diabloists, just how wide are they? I’ve been told the Guara is in fact one of the widest cars ever made and this could be a real problem

So I emailed eurotunnel and they basically said ferk off.

I have not booked as a car over 1.85m so cannot go in the single deck section unless I change my booking. There is no availability on the times I am booked and it will be a long wait until there is space.

So one side of the car mounted on the walkway it is then redface my co-driver best be a good look out!

I've driven a Diablo once, and from memory the rear is about a foot wider than the front?

Basically, if you get put on the standard carriage, make a point of struggling to get on - they'll bump you on to the coach carriages rather than delay the train.

Bit of a gamble, but they get paid for punctuality (believe it or not!)

Never had any problems on the six times I used the Eurotunnel train, and my car is rather wide as well, but maybe it is due to the fact that it isn't fitted with modern low profile tyres, so my wheels didn't get kerbed.

Just called Eurotunnel to check I'm on the 'wideass deck'. Yep no probs but most of the thursday trains are now full as are the Monday returns. If you're worried about it, call them and get them to note on the system your request. Then when booking in, avoid the automated booths and go to manned booth. They should be able to see your request on the system and feed you off accordingly.

Invariably there are always people who turn up early or late for their train so you should get on ok.

As said above if all else fails just say 'it won't fit' and they'll quickly shuffle you around to avoid delay.

Diablo is 2.2 metres wide which in old money is 7' 2" wide so your Dead Tomato should fit in no problem......BTW why weren't you at the Bristol Italian Car Day? There were loads of De Tomaso there!
