With difficulty. I've tried two years running and never managed it. First thing you need is the French equivalent of an OS map of the area. Can't remember the name of them but they are blue. I bought mine from the camping shop in the shopping mall in Le Mans city centre. Once you have one you can start planning a route through the fields to the Mulsanne. I would suggest a starting point of one of the infield camp sites.

Last year my plan was to go down the back end of Beausejour, where it is quiet, and climb the fence into one of the adjoining fields and work my way to the main straight from there but was unsuccessful.

The previous year I walked the Mulsanne on Friday afternoon and dived off into a hedge halfway along to see if I could reconnoiter a route to one of the camp sites avoiding roads which I could use in reverse on race night. Unfortunately I was pissed, the hedge was actually a thorn bush and there was a ditch on the other side. So I just ended up in a ditch covered in leaves and scratches.

Got a handheld GARMIN GPS that I guess could be useful. THE OS map sounds a good start. Then just knowing where to try from.

That's the same issue for all of us... I bet there is a path and signposts but at 2 AM when I set off the beer always draws me back to the campsite.

Go to the Chinese Cafe on the Mulsanne for dinner (they do a great BBQ), have a few beers whilst the sun sets, wait until it's totally dark and walk along the approach road following the cars, about 1 mile down take a right into the forrest

trousers and dark T-shirts are necessity as les flicks will see you

cammo is optional wink

Jesus wept you lot are over-complicating things! We managed it on our first year without the assistance of maps or GPS, and then last year it took us practically no time at all...

You can get to a stunning viewing point on the inside of the circuit nearly opposite the Chinese Cafe in about 10 mins from the Houx Annexe campsite with very little effort.
Initiative!

Also, DO NOT take your circuit admission ticket with you as they have been known to be confiscated in extreme circumstances.

A little note to those who choose to go - Please don't ruin it for the rest of us by doing as a pair of irresponsible tw@ts did last year. Stay away from the armco, stay in the fields behind the fences and generally the stewards will have no issues with you whatsoever!

Do I understand you correctly....are you simply trying to get in the trees along the straight to be near the 200mph+ fly pasts for the experience of it?

I've not been before...is there fences stopping you getting into the trees then? So it's those you have to overcome and then all that's between you and the track is armco? wicked biggrin

I've always wanted to watch from the small industrial estate inside the circuit- I think its the first chicane. Anyhow, you would see them at very high speed, then braking down into the chicane. No idea how to get there, whilst missing the pod, mind. Can someone tell me off-line?

Many thanks

Not the Mulssanne but...

If you get the bus to Mulssanne corner it drops you some way West of the viewing area and you can get track-side next to the Mulssanne/Arnage 'straight' easily and officially.

I've never been bothered to try but there doesn't seem to be much to stop you walking further West through the forest, towards Arnage.

Like I said, not the Mulssanne but then again these days the run between Mulssanne and Arnage is the fastest on the circuit - not the Mulssanne and is if anything narrower.

As previously stated, I for one DO actually enjoy the Racing and the thrill of Le Mans, not just for beverage consumption.

Told Beestie last night I had work commitments, hope he told you about my contribution to the whip and didn't just pocket it ? yikes
