I took over 600 shots today and thought that to whet your appetite I'd post just a few of them. These are raw, not post processed, so please just accept them for what they are. I haven't time to go through them all. The Saleen hit 192mph between Mulsanne and Arnage but the new Peugeot - which they said in the paper here yesterday wasn't trying for outright speed but fettling suspension and testing tyres - hit a mind boggling 222mph. The Audi tried for 5 laps to pass but never stood a chance. Can you work out though where I took the photos? There are four different spots in this collection.

Enjoy, and criticism welcome!

Awesome pics. Was the Peugeot really that fast ? Didnt think the Audi got close to 220mph in the last two Le Mans ?

Fantastic pictures - really, really impressive. Am keen to know what camera/equipment you used as some of the detail and magnification is incredible.

Most of these shots are taken with a Nikon D2X set at about f11 and the speed varied according to the light between 1/500 and 1/2000. The lens used was a 70/200 f2.8 with and without a TC14E multiplier. I made a mistake and forgot to reset the ISO rating and had it on ISO400 so the photos are noisier than they would otherwise be. I would be interested to see if you can work out the four different places the shots were taken from though. As you can see, they aren't the normal viewing places used by the public.

Dear me those shots are wicked!!! I do want Peugeot to win over Audi anyway, not sure about them winning, but over Audi- At time of writing, 16:48 UK time, #8 Peugeot is ahead of the field. Over 1 sec quicker than the #1 Audi. Looking good.

First lot - inside the track at Indianapolis (by the service road)

Second lot - on the run between Mulsanne and Indianapolis (near where Peter Dumbreck went flying ?)

Third lot - the old signalling pits at Mulsanne Corner

Final lot - On the Mulsanne, somewhere near the second chicane / kink ?

I'll give you 9 out of 10 Nick. Damn well worked out I reckon since some are pretty tight shots. The only mistake is that some were taken at post 70 on the hump of the Mulsanne straight 400 yds before the Mulsanne bend

Try setting the camera to "shutter priority" with a shutter speed of 1/250 or even 1/160 if you have steady hands (but you have the VR to help). Set AF to continuous so it stays focued as you pan with the cars. Then shoot away at the right moment.

Will give you more of a sense of speed that is perhaps conveyed in some of those pics, good though they are.

Look MAN, I've got enough problems on my hands with the Canon i9950 which seems to have lost half its printing options on reinstalling the software on a new computer! Why would I actually try and make life more difficult by buying a Canon camera? Anyway, after last night's booze intake the option of a slower speed was out of the question! I like to pan and give the impression of speed by using a slower speed and also by using spot instead of matrix focusing, but frankly today I was in easy mode. Don't like 'em? Tough! I've already sold 3 19x13 prints to a bar here! (If the damned Canon printer will work that is)

We were at the bottom of Mulsanne today as well. Only had the mobile phone to hand so will not bother with the pics, but how about getting your pre-LM fix of the sound?

There is video as well but it's phone-quality rubbish, so just close your eyes and listen to the sound. You can almost smell the Houx Annex loos already...
