I expect the diesel ones will remain 'whispy'....

But you can bet your sweet ass that the rest will be just as nuts as previous years!

The Audi sounds like a dishwasher - the Peugot like a noisier dishwasher.

All other cars sound pretty much as they did last year - with the Corvettes sounding the best (to my ears).
Though how they get that noise from the Lamborghini, I've no idea!!

As Rob says, the Audi just seemed to 'woosh' by. The Peugeot was a touch louder, the Corvettes as usual sounded awesome.

I see in the EVO Le Mans booklet that the Lambo is running again this year. IMO that was the best sounding car from last year and would be great if it runs again this year as well thumbup

No1 Audi wants you all to have a nice peaceful nights rest on your campsite.

No2 The Diesels are deliberately quiet so that you can hear the beautiful sound of the CORVETTES as they change down gears comming into the corners and then go up through the gearbox while overtaking those Astons, woopee biggrin

Particulate filters to stop the clouds of black smoke which would otherwise accompany their progress.

Act like silencers (there may even be a silencer in there too somewhere, though they're not a requirement of the rules, whereas the filters are).

From the regs:

"5.5.3. - Smoke
The engine must not produce visible exhaust emissions under race conditions."

Rule 5.5.3 only applies to the diesels and I'm kinda guessing the Lambo. isn't running one of Rudolf Diesel's finest...

I think a lot of it in Audi's case was the fact everyone scoffed at the idea when they said they were going to race a diesel, saying they were rattly and smoky - so they made one that was the least smoky, quietest thing on the track and then walked around in efficient German smugness.

because noise is wasted energy according to Dr Ullrich. hence no noise...

however it is interesting that i think it was Kristensen who said that he could hear other drivers coming on and off the throttle and when they made mistakes, just another advantage for audi!!!

We did have the interesting noise combination of a Pescarolo being closely followed by a Vette through Indianapolis - you heard the Vette approaching and down shifting but the first sound (and the first sight) was the Pescarolo Judd engine as it put the power on.
We did a double take as we were expecting to see a bright yellow car approaching!

Ps The Lambo was definitely circulating so you should all get to hear it and light your barbecues from the exhaust come the race

Corvettes sound fantastic, sounds like they have a mini battle going on in the exhaust pipes !
