Sell his tickets...

I understand it's nigh on impossible to get a replacement passport quickly now. A friend of mine (travelling to her brother's wedding) was told it must be "life or death and her mother killing her if she couldn't get there didn't count".

A friend has managed to get through the tunnel twice using his wifes passport? Both times he said he picked up the wrong one and they said no problem? Could be worth a try as a last resort? (if he has a wife?)

Taken from the passport website

http://www.passport.gov.uk/passport_replacing_urge...

I need a replacement urgently
If you need to travel in less than two weeks you should make an urgent application for a new passport. Your first step should be to call our 24-hour Passport Adviceline 0870 521 0410 (see terms and conditions) and make an appointment at one of our offices.

AH thats easy

follow these simple steps

1) book rock band tour bus. double decker wit kitchen, 2 lounges and 12 bunks.
2) find 11 mates to go with you
3) loose passport 3 days before your due to go.
4) go anyway
5) get very pissed on the way to dover
6) pretend to fall asleep in the bunk upstairs whilst you go through customs and get on the boat.

simple,

as for the way back who cares you made it to le mans. but you could always try

making sure the coach is behind a coach full of Chinese. and they'll just wave your coach on without even bothering to ask....

well it worked for me.... possibly the only person ever to be smuggled from dover to calais !!!!!!

and that was shortly after september 11th!!!!

cheers

Can't you get one whilst you wait at the passport office in London any more? By all accounts you have to be there at the crack of dawn and spend the best part of a day queueing in hellish conditions but depends how badly he wants to go I guess...

I had to go through that hellish process in 2000 after i fell asleep on a train coming back from Charleroi (sp) and woke up just in time to get off train only to realise i had left my bag on the train with passport, camera, etc in and was flying out to Malta the following week.
Didn't have any problems at Calais getting through customs i just tild them i had lost my passport and they took down my details and let me go through.
Glyn.

I shat my load last year, as the NIGHT BEFORE we were due to leave, the following happens.

I sticker up car
I pack clothes
I pack tickets
I make sure I have everything
I remember passport!
I look in passport
I am horrified to find that passport ran out 3 months prior! SHIT.

Cue lots of bricking it, swearing, saying "Why didn't I think to check this???????!!!!", talk to parents (I live with them), go round chrisbr68's gaff, all other LM travellers from our group were there, they give me beer and calm me down a bit and we all decide I have nothing to lose and I should just go for it.

Long story short:
No problem going out
Stopped by police for 'warming the tyres up' - for some weird reason they didnt' ask to see my passport. Feck knows what would have become of me if they had!
Coming back, stopped at UK Customs in France. Chatting to bloke, all fine, he then drops the 'bomb' that my passport was outta date. Cue my finest acting, show him driving licence, no problem sir but get it sorted ASAP.

PHEW!

NO passport however, different story. Not quite sure how/if you'll get away with that although the EU is supposed to be free/open. You can cross borders within continental Europe without so much as even slowing down so in theory you should be able to do the same between UK and France?

If matey has a way of getting back home (i.e. he's going in his own car) then I'd take as much documentation as possible and wing the out of it. You never know - you might get away with it and if you do you'll have a great time over there and have a story to tell too!

Last year when I decided to wing it, I really didn't care about the coming home bit. I knew I'd have had my fun for 4 days so wasn't worried about missing out on that.

I just got a new passport after mine expired this year. I used the Post Office Checking service and it only took a week to arrive. Applied on the Saturday before the Bank Holiday, got it the following Saturday.

These things can be pretty quick these days. Good luck for your friend. smile

No - most of central Europe are part of the Schengen agreement - but the UK isn't hence why there is customs and passport control at the entry points of the tunnel and ports....
