Is it just a case of putting in the words "Le Mans" in my TOMTOM, or is there a post code for the race track? Once near the track is there adequate signs around the area pointing to the various camp sites? Can any one help shed light on this for me please.

Throw your tomtom away and drive like a man. Use a map and never admit to being lost.

No satnav I've experienced can get you from any channel port to Le Mans without some very frustrating wrong turns along the way, particularly when negotiating Rouen. Take a map / follow the invasion!

Last year we made the mistake of simply driving to Le Mans (the city of) and assuming there'd be lots of signs to show us the way. There wasn't.

So we stopped down a side street to try and work out where the heck we were and how to get to the circuit. It then rained (by which I mean God turned on his power shower) which is bad when your car has no roof and your map is made of paper. Luckily the local police took pity on us (after they'd stopped laughing) and escorted us to the circuit thumbup

Still couldn't tell you how to get there though biggrin

follow all the cars with stickers

the only one of my crowd that got lost last year - in both directions I might add - was the only one using sat nav. Get a map! The route is so easy!

Find the circuit on the map, use whatever else you have to show where you are camping and put that in as the desination on the TomTom map and get it to take you there. I did that last year and it took me straight to Beausejour, although having been before I did know my way around Rouen without its help, and also knew how to get to the right place once tomtom took me from the new autoroute to recognisable places near the city centre. I was happy with the accuracy of the route it took me though.

biggrin to be fair, the first year we did that we arrived in Hons Fleur and discovered the group we were following were going for breakfast! Erm, a slight detour.

Take a compass and sort of head south / South West.....unlike some one I know who ended up at the Belgium border before realising he had gone the wrong way out of the Eurotunnel.

Good advice. I've started filling the Garmin with a variety of places, including Houx Annexe (ie the road that goes under Tetre Rouge/Mulsanne straight), Arnage corner parking area, even Rouen Les Essarts circuit. I'll have a large area displayed on the SatNav whilst I drive to make sure I'm going in the right directon (!) on my scenic route and when I'm within a few miles I'll just get it to direct me.

SatNav is a great tool but don't expect it to replace common sense.
