driving licence - do I need to take the green bit?

Do I need to take the green bit of my driving licence or just the photocard?

Best to take a photocopy of both, and not the original (or take the photocopy, but if pulled over, provide the photocopy first. Apparently the BiB have a habit of confiscating them from people they pull over, and you have to schlep to the local nick to get them back - if it's just a photocopy they've taken, why bother?

I dont have a new style licence so just taking the old pink type.
Someone will be along soon to say my licence is out of date and need to have one issued after I give a give a blood sample, iris scan and donate my last born to the govenment.

Hmmm, I got tugged for speeding the other day and given a fixed penalty. As I had my license on me I was left with the yellow temporary license while they put the points on. Is this acceptable for driving in France? Do I have to pay the fine before they think about sending my license back?

I was flagged down by Gendarmerie near Alencon 2 weeks ago (as was everything else with wheels).
M. le Officier did want to see both parts. He didn't bother with my passport at all - just the D/L
