Having just done my first Le Mans ever, I was amazed at just how HUGE the place is, and struck by my and my pal's complete unpreparedness. Many people (obviously been before) had brought scooters/quads/gopeds etc, and I wondered what the legality of these is? I think I will definitely try and take something small with an engine on next year.

Will the gendarmerie require a license? Proof of tax/insurance etc? What specifically do you require to be able to ride one of these things around the roads at the track?

The Police seem to take no notice what so ever. Can't help thinking tho that if you were involved in an accident they would soon change all that.

They will on occasions. Saw a bloke told to get off a monkey-bike for having no registration plate. Safest option is a fold-up bicycle from Halfords for 80 quid. They are also more useful than motorbikes if you intend to get involved in covert operations sneaking through forests and such like. They also fit in a TVR!

If you do take something with an engine (particularly a 2 stroke one) don't go round and round the campsite, its fcensoreding annoying!

Hmm I must be getting old!
