On my way down about 60 miles from Boulogne I stopped for fuel. Filler cap off onto the pump, fill up, fill the jerry can next to me, nozzle back onto the pump, cap back on the jerry can and move off the pump.

About 100 miles down the road I met up with some friends and realised I left my cap back on the pump...

So if anyone found a Lotus Elise filler cap like the one below

I'll happily pay a small reward and cover the postage to return it...

Thanks Stu

I am amazed and impressed at your having the foresight to take a picture of your filler cap, on a blue satin cushion no less, just on the offchance that you may need it at some stage in the future for just such an eventuality biggrin

I think I saw a tatty old Renault 4 rumbling along the N138 with a rather nice gold-looking filler cap..

sorry to hear - I did the same last year with my Leven one for the TVR, sadly never saw it again so got a new one frown Didn't make that mistake this year!

At £121.35 incl VAT I can understand why it's sat on a blue satin cushion.

Have you tried the PH France forum, or on the Le Mans section one of the regular posters lives there? I bet if someone went to the filling station the cap's probably still behind the counter.

Have you tried contacting breakers yards? there are a couple of national networks that are tied in to web pages allowing to post a request that will go out to hundreds of breakers throughout the country.

Think yourself lucky, I did the same last year in my fiancee's Lamborghini Diablo paperbag

Stopped at one of the Automatique petrol stations on the Autoroute, it wouldn't accept any of my credit cards, so I got back in the car in a bit of a strop and headed off to the next manned petrol station. Stopped to get fuel, popped the fuel cover flap.....er...where is the fuel cap....oh feck....bet its back at the Automatique. Pay for fuel, buy plastic filler cap which I have to mod to fit the hole, set off at slightly more than the recommended 130km/h. Get stopped by 2 gendarmes in a Scooby for exceeding said recommended speed limit. Manage to explain reason for excessive speed and to my amazement get off!
Head back to Automatique at slightly reduced speed to find some fecker has swiped the cap. Not wholely surprised as it was aluminium with Lamborghini carved in it.
On return to UK I contact Lambo Manchester to be told replacement cap is £230 + VAT yikes a very expensive stop.
