Using a EOS400D with a fairly old Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. Not the best lens in the world but even with the crappy weather I was managing to get enough light through to get relatively crisp shots. I am saving up for a new lens for next year - fancy a Canon f/2.8 200mm

Our grandstand seats (Dunlop) were a great spot for photos, we could see over the fence easily and at 300mm a car coming in to the curves filled the frame nicely.

What sort of cash did you pick up the lense for.

Cant beat the sound of that lambo - can almost hear it looking at that picture!

I bought the lens off a mate (who's now a Nikon man) for £80. The current model of this lens currently retails for about the £100 mark. In fact, digitalrev have it on offer, see here:

It's a good starter telephoto lens, but it's a bit slow (f/5.6 at 300mm) and slow to focus (it's now USM or HSM). I am beginning to lust after an USM IS lens now, ideally with L glass.

Ive got the 400D and Tamrom 70-300mm lense and my pics were nowhere near as good as that. As for night ones, i tried every setting possible, and they still came out blurred.

What settings did you use for all of these?

Hi James,
If you look at my Flickr account (link is in my post ^^) I think the EXIF data is still stored for each photo (Click on each picture, and then click on More Properties down the right hand side). Generally the camera is permanently in Apperture Priority with the ISO on 100-200 for the day and 400-1600 for the night shots. I occasionally put it in Shutter Priority if I wanted a particular exposure (for the trailing light kind of shots).
