Anyone thought of doing Nurburgring 24hr?

I may annoy someone by writing this but I visited the Nurburgring 24 hours before visiting Le Mans and to tell you the truth, the atmos at Le Mans was a bit of a let down after the 'Ring. I still haven't seen anyone look as scared as a driver emerging from his car having had a spotlight knocked off in the dark.
"Couldn't see a f*%#ing thing couldn't see the kerbs, Couldn't see a f*%#ing thing couldn't see the kerbs, Couldn't see a f*%#ing thing couldn't see the kerbs, Couldn't see a f*%#ing thing couldn't see the kerbs, Couldn't see a f*%#ing thing couldn't see the kerbs, I'm going to die."
The pit garages are absolute chaos. Indeed I have seen fights break out between teams getting in each others' way while carrying out repairs. At the same time I have seen rival teams' mechanics pitch in to help another too.
Take your drinking boots though, it's like the Beer Olympics at times. May also be worth taking a Mountain Bike with a good set of lights if you fancy seeing different parts of the track.

I've not been to the 24 hrs but did camp at the GP a few years ago.
If you think the Le Mans camp sites are crazy you wait till you try and get some sleep in a forrest full of German race fans!
We felt very intimidated when we arrived to shouts of F~~k off Englander. All turned out good in the end though. They take the biggest speaker systems and disco lights you've ever seen and it just goes on for the whole week, untill Shumi lost.
Not sure if the camp sites for 24hrs are the same, if it is it will be loud but good fun.

A few of my mates did it this year and they reckon it was so good that they won't be going to Le Mans again! As someone said above, it sounds like Le Mans used to be. I'm going to check it out myself next year by going to the Nurburgring first and then straight on to Le Mans. Perfect!

I stayed at the Dorint but strayed into the sites. Like Glastonbury. I saw the main beer tent move metres down a slope over the course of the weekend (Eifel rain is SERIOUS), I also saw some displays of ingenuity. The seasoned campers had the ingenious idea of putting an array of strobes on their tents so that they can follow the light back to their tents before they need to learn braille.If you think the Le Mans camp sites are crazy you wait till you try and get some sleep in a forrest full of German race fans!

There is also the Eifel Fog caused by Barbecue smoke combining with real fog or dew.

I believe Radio Le Mans and Dailysportscar.com called this the "Grounds for Divorce Tour". The great thing is that you can also stop off at Spa and Reims and take in the atmos there too. Bagman said:

We did the Nring 24 this year, It is very different to LM, very few sports cars about but lots of big camper vans, camping even more basic than the LM sites !!! very chaotic, lots of huge bonfires, and even bigger pa's playing thrash metal or 80's pop...
The drinking is serious, makes Lm look like a shandy drinking convention. very few non germans about, looks like the danes and the dutch havent discovered it yet...
no bottle mountains as all the bottles are on deposit

The atmosphere is more like sebring than LM and probably as dangerous.... ( sebring usually kills a spectator or 2 every year or so!!!!- so much so they warn the teams not to go into whatthey call the zoo!!)

it is properly bonkers.. very different to Le Mans and as a few others have said much more German. To give you an idea when I was doing the night stint this year, you come out of the darkness at Kallenhard and into one of the spectator areas it felt like you were flying a bombing raid into Baghdad. The entire sky was lit up by fireworks, the pa systems were so loud you could hear them in the car(!) It really was surreal. It is amazing how much preparation goes into the camping. Tree houses, sky systems etc etc. bonkers..
