New to Karting Nord this year after two great years in Beausejour.

I am aware that these site has given pitches and I'm wondering how big they are?

8 of us going. Would 4 pitches be comfortable with 4 cars, a 6x3 gazebo and tents?

Also, are the pitches numbered or is it, first come first serve basis?

The pitch sizes are just free for all like all the other sites except Houx. Last year we got there Wed avo and found a spot for 4 cars, 6x3 gazebo and 6 tents. It was a bit of a squeeze but all worked out well in the end. Getting there on Monday this year to get a spot by the track.

Sadly this changed for last year and will change again for this year.

Last year MB was marked into pitches and zoned. I understand space was also "measured" on BSJ and Bleu (when Pierre and his mates could be bothered to) and Bleu was also zoned.

If you look at the pdf on the ACO site http://www.lemans.org/sport/sport/calendrier/pdf/2... I think it shows which sites will be have allocated pitches this year.

Guy is right, in theory all sites give 35 square metres (in theory 7mx5) it has just been less well managed on some sites historically. There is never any guarantee of what might happen on what site each year!

If we got there middayish Wednesday. Could we get a spot for 8 people/ 4 cars and many tents in?

When sorting out tickets on Monday with 1st-tickets.co.uk I asked if we would be able to get 4 pitches next to each other and he said yes and I got the idea that they were marked out pitches. I guess in the ACO's attempt to introduce some order into the ranks.

BJ was a lot more ordered in 2007 than in 2006. So it wouldn't surprise me if people were there making sure you aren't an inch out.

Houx has had marked pitches for years and the site is divided up in to boxes with white lines (a-la football pitch lines), with a little plastic flag in each with it's number on. When you get your camping pass it has your pitch number on it.

I would imagine this is where the ACO want to go for all camp sites - to counter some of the abuses that used to go on in MB.

ACO confirmed with my travel operator this week that Karting Nord would be measured pitches this year, 5m x 7m as previously mentioned, and they would be numbered in order to assist those persons travelling as part of a party. If you are travelling with others it is therefore essential that your travel operator links your bookings so that you are issued with consecutive pitch numbers. This does of course rely on the organisers numbering the pitches in a logical order.....

In the long run this means much less camping capacity than before. By 2009 the new football stadium will be under way (it has not started yet) so the Houx Annex is this year's overflow.

This is a slightly worrying move by the ACO if it comes off. It'll just end up with tent villages being setup with no space for anything including parking. It could spell the beginning of the end for LM camping and if true I might start looking off circuit for my digs.

That is a blow, always enjoyed searching for a pitch at KN.
I remember last year, it was "look for the high ground" away from water. I remember seeing allocated sites and some pitches were underwater and you dont have anywhere else to pitch!

35 sq metres is frankly enough for a car and tent - measure it out for yourself. However, in defence of the ACO they are now in a bind with Houx Annexe disappearing and the number of visitors on the up (nearly 240,000 last year). They are desperately trying to find extra land but it isn't easy at all. If you drive towards BSJ from the main entrance there are fields around but I reckon (but don't know) that people are holding out for extortionate prices for the land since they know the ACO is in the sh*t. Again, this camping area will only be used once a year anyway so for 51 weeks of the year it is fallow. On the other side of the coin the organisation of pitches could be better managed so that friends are together etc. Whatever, I really don't know how the ACO are going to sort it all out since now it is a quart and pint pot situation.

Change of subject; the road that goes under Porsche Curves to Karting Nord is to be made wider and a roundabout installed where you turn left to Karting Nord. As you arrive at the bend all the land from the track to the bend on the left has been levelled flat and perhaps this might provide extra camping next year. I was at the ACO ticket office Tuesday and even they don't seem to quite know what is going on for the moment but it does seem logical.

As I said before, this is what you get in Houx and have for years and Houx doesn't look like a tented village.

A single 5x7 pitch is room for a car, 4-man tent, gazebo and beer mountain/BBQ area. And you can add to this a 'roadway' between each line of tents, that gives you some over-hang space without blocking other peoples access.

This doesn't looks nothing like the private Danish concentration camps in KN and Porsche Curves!

The road from the Porsche curves is being widened all the way down to the new football stadium on the Annex site, and so will take a strip of land from Karting Nord reducing further the available space.

The ACO are also planning improvements to the bike track in Maison Blanche with larger run off areas and gravel traps. This too will reduce the usable space.

On the plus side ACO are trying to avoid persons turning up on Friday and having nowhere to pitch a tent. Not unreasonable really, so long as it is properly organised such that groups can together even if they arrive on different days.

The days of the Monday night advance party are well and truly over......

I've just found this out and I think its a shame, but something that was obviously going to happen.

This will be the 5th year for us at K N and have more going than ever, I just hope we get a decent spot. I'll spoke to the ticket company I use and they said they'll try and put us in a block.

If it ends up being a distaster, then we too might look for other places to stay in the future.

For anyone interested in off track camping then at Le Bounty you park your car in our secure hard ground car park making it safe and less disturbance for campers.

My Group have been using Houx for a few years, and our ticket agent has always got our numbered sites together, so can't agree more with J17! Changed to Houx as the 'free for all' sites got crazy with quite a few car groups saving double the space than they really needed.

Just had a phone call from Just Tickets to discuss their allocation for Karting Nord. We applied for 4 car passes which would have put us in zone D or zone E wherever they were. Instead though, JT have been allocated a bunch of 105sq metre pitches to try and fill. So instead of getting 4 small pitches we now have 2 larger pitches for the same price.

I'm a happy bunny!! And if we arrive Monday avo and they've got us next to the track I'll be even happier.
