Airtrak pretty much double prices - where to now?

Airtrak have pretty much doubled their price for 2008. As decent as the toilets/bar/pitches etc. are £450 notes is a little steep for what is no more than a patch of grass and a cross channel ticket.

I am sure this has been asked before but anyone have any good suggestions?

We want to be near the action/village but not sure how good the sites around are...we've always used Airtrak.

What do other sites charge?

Help appreciated with this.

I am in Expo booked through the Le Mans tourist office, travelling Newhaven-Dieppe back Le Havre- Newhaven.

2 campingpasses, 5 general admission ticets, and 5 grandstand tickets are cost around £135 per person. Ferry is £139 and 2 of us in car, so thats £200 each all in.

If you want reasonably cheap Entry/Grandstand and get a place in Houx Annexe, then give TL a ring. They also still have a few channel crossings available at £85 per vehicle.

Nowt wrong with speedchills is there? Wouldn’t call them unoriginal, they were the first group to set up affordable private camping if I’m not mistaken. There are plenty of options available through numerous agencies and also Beausejour camping direct from the ACO for 53 Euros per vehicle (under £40).

Speedchills havent had an enclosed camping area on BSJ before, it was just turn up and find your own space, but due to the ever changing nature of the beast they have moved into the private camping area this year associated with the sponsorship of the Creation Autosportif team.

Nothing wrong at all as far as I know. They've not had 'private' camping before. They have usually sold standard camping passes and then sold membership of their clubhouse. I was just commenting on the their choice of wording. i.e. Unique.

To be fair, I think the "unique" bit is the fact that they're a sponser of the Creation team

Speedchills and alot of the other organisers charge per person from what i've seen. For example, for a car of two its £229 per person, arriving tues, departing monday with SC. (only £10 less if arriving on weds). They dont use Norfolk line ferries - they use more expensive ones, granted its included in their price but its still expensive in comparison to White Rabbit Racing.

WRR however only charge per car/pitch, so if you have a car of 4 then it works out alot cheaper than any rival! Plus if you use Norfolk Line and book now (or before 31st March with the WRR promotional code) then its only and extra £40 per car. Making WRR the cheapest imo.

Also i'm pretty sure that there is a mandatory option to become a member at a cost of £35 per person at Speedchills too for their campcreation.

Normally book with Page & Moy, but they have become very bad in the last two years so booked with Travel Destinations this time.Twelve of us going at a cost of £328 each going tues 10th till mon 16th,portsmouth/Caen night crossing (inc cabin).

General entrance,camping in Houx Annex,ferry crossings Portsmouth/Caen (inc cabin).If you go onto Brittany ferries the crossing alone is £400 per car.

Just for the record, I have booked with MRI which is what I usually do. As I'm going solo in 2008 I have used their tickets only service. I have general entrance, Maison Blanc tribune seat, parking in Parking Blanc and access to their hospitality for £257. I've separately booked Eurotunnel travelling Friday morning back Monday afternoon, and a hotel (too old to camp!) for Friday and Sunday nights, and I'll kip out in the car on Saturday night as usual.

I'd be interested to learn what went wrong with Page & Moy. I have used them occasionally without any problem.

I have used Page & Moy for many years but about Two years ago they were bought or merged with another company and the service went downhill.
Every year the published price for the "all in package" includes the Dover/Calais ferry which is a real trek from Bristol, so in past years we had the additional cost to use Portsmouth/Cherbourg,but last year they wouldn't offer anything other than Dover/Calais so thats what we did. This year we tried them again, and same again, no other ferry options and also they couldn't advise on Houx Annexe availability. But most of all, both last year and this, they NEVER ring back and I got fed up with chasing them all the time.
So I rang around and found Travel Destinations. Booked 15 x £328 = £4920.

As a comparison then, if were to book with me (WRR) and have 2 persons in the car it'd be £175.50 per person inc race ticket and return ferry. 3 per car and the cost would reduce to £128. Plus we have the private camping area with fencing, security and far too much space (approx 50sqm per car) along with toilets & showers onsite and a members bar and grill.

Obviously that's based on a dover/calais crossing.

I accept what your saying but when your car does 14-16mpg reducing the distance by 500 miles adds up,so Portsmouth it is. Also Beausejour is to far a walk for us fat lazy buggers.
