Hotels an hour outside Le Mans?

Can anyone recommend a hotel about an hour or so outside of Le Mans - me and the guys want to stay somewhere chilled away from the circuit and just drive in as and when we want. As we enjoy the drive down, would rather be somewhere south, east or west of Le Mans.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi Batster,

This year I've made my own arrangements for the trip as I'm travelling solo. Getting a hotel reasonable close to LM is a major problem as many are block booked by tour organisations.

I am booked into the Ibis Hotel at Falaise, maybe 80 KM north of LM for the Friday and Sunday night (I always sleep in the car in Parking Blanc on Saturday night so as to see as much racing as possible and avoid the traffic). I stayed there before, 1999 I think. It's a reasonable standard and not likely to be busy. Also, it's a bit nearer to the Channel ports so shortens the to/from UK journeys. Perhaps this hotel could be a bit too far from LM for your party. Maybe Lowdrag, Piglet or other PHers local to LM will come on here with other information.

You're mad sir.

It's perfectly possible to chill in a decent campsite! (like mine )
But as for driving in - Saturday morning before the start = utter nightmare.

I can't add very much unfortunately. Cooperlola is local but I haven't seen her around here for a while.

I'd try the LM tourist board, give them a call and ask them for some recommendations, they speak English.

We stayed in the Ibis in LM for the Classic in 2004, we found we spent quite a lot of time away from the circuit as without a campsite base every time we wanted to chill and relax out of the sun (it was VERY hot) we had to go back to the hotel. It might be worth getting ACO membership to give you somewher to go - also with decent loo's!

Most hotels are fully booked right down to the Loire. The Le Mans tourist board might be able to help but as a thought there is a nice Logis de France at 25 miles south at La Fleche called the Vert Galant. Nice little Logis with private parking and often used by aston Martin people. Have a look at www.vghotel.com. Jean-Marie's daughter speaks perfect english.

Done the camping thing before and not really my thing anymore, hence the need for a fixed roof over my head...

I have 3 rooms at the Le Mans F1 hotel booked. Its basic but of you want a room and facilties its v cheap.

We may not be going so I may ben able to reallocate these reservations if somebody wants them??

There are plenty still available in Tours. That’s an hour south of the circuit. Straight up the N138. Just make sure you turn off before you get to Mulsanne or you could be in all sorts of bother!

If you come up the motorway A28 and get off at 24 or 23 it could be an hour to there, then another two hours to get to the parking and into the circuit. Friday afternoon and Saturday are the pits. Coming up the RD338 (the old RN138) I'd advise turning off left for Moncé en Bélin before Mulsanne and then following the signs for Arnage and then the circuit. If you get off at J24 (Parigné l'Eveque) head north for Le Mans and then the ring road to the circuit. Going one junction further north to 23 will get you into heavy traffic straight away and will be slower.

I can second La Chartre sur Le Loir. Lovely place and you get some serious motors come through from Thursday onwards.

I believe the hotel there is called Hotel De France. Nice but will probably be booked up now

Make sure you get something decent or you'll end up camping again!

We stayed at a hotel in Bagnoles D'Lorne, about 65 mins north of the Circuit for a couple of years. It was excellent, easy mini-bus to and from the circuit, and the roads around the place are simply sublime, especially if you are going a few days earlier and want some grand hoonage.
