Eating and drinking in Arnage....

Hi all

Despite lots of trip to Le Mans I've never made it to Arnage! Our plan this year is to go there Thurs early eve then head to the Arnage / Mulsanne corners to watch some of the night time qualifying before heading back to the campsite.

Am I right in assuming that the traffic will be easier than when actual race is on?
Are there many places to grab a meal in Arnage / any recommend place to eat?

If you are going to the actual village the worse time to travel is between 6pm and 2am. It's an F'ing nightmare.

When you're there it is great. We go there to eat food (lots of places to eat), drink beer (apart from me as I seem to be driving) and watch cars (loads of cars cruise up the high street). We then go back to the track late to watch the night racing after it has calmed down a bit.

depends on where you are camping as the walk or cycle say from MB or BN or BSJ isn't bad. Coming from the roundabout nearish to BSJ there is the bar at the railway crossing, good first pit-stop. Once you get up into town, plenty of fueling stops to choose from and plenty of street action.

Get to Arnage village on the friday for all the pre race festivities if you can. As for refreshements during the race their is burger van by the track on the arnage / indianapolis corner that is open throughout the race - great place to watch at night - if you get right up in the corner by indianapolis you can see the cars pretty close up braking from about 190mph. Also see a fair few crashes / spins around there too...

There are three good eating houses in Arnage. If you are a wealthy type there is the Matfeux restaurant going out of Arnage south on the left. A Michelin starred restaurant with a wine list to die for. For normal eating there is the Arlequin on the roundabout dead centre and the other favoured place is about 100 yds south of that. It doesn't look much from the outside but it is good food at a good price. Those are the best but there are several others and you certainly won't go hungry. Oh, not to forget the lake side restaurants just north of Arnage. There's the Brithotel and a pleasant restaurant you can see from the main road as you go towards Le Mans on the left.

It's 2k from Beausejour to Arnage. Don't try and drive it on Saturday morning but at all other times it's ok. I have never had any problems driving up there or parking while the race itself is on and I go up there a lot.

There's a reasonably good bar opposite Arnage railway station, the food is not bad, and reasonably priced, and the serving wenches are to die for.

I met some serious De Lorean driving nutters there in '06. They certainly knew how to party!!
There's also a small SuperU supermarket in Arnage which normally stocks a selection of cheap beer and Bbq food.
Arnage corner is a bit of a hike on foot, but worth the effort, especially at nght, there's normally a beer tent selling the usual steak/frites, omlette/frites, dead dog/frites. You can get a free bus back to the major campsites every 10-15 minutes. It's not the most direct route back, but after 15 Stellas, it beats walking/cycling!!

If its anything like last year Arnage village on Thursday evening will be an absolute nightmare. So many people arrive on Thursday evening that the whole place is gridlocked - as is pretty much everywhere else approaching the circuit. Its Ok if you can walk, but I'd avoid taking the car anywhere unless you like sitting in traffic.
