It depends on which way you go. Some years i have gone down the toll roads all the way, others, I have got off at Rouen and had some fun down the back roads. ViaMichelin is a good route planner as it quotes the toll road price for the route. It’s about 46Euro's for the round trip.

These days if you (as an Englishman, and it does seem targeted) are caught speeding in France, you need to pay the fines cash on the spot or it all gets very ugly and time-consuming. And, the Carte Bleu - Visa relationship isn't what it was, so a Visa card won't always help. 40 Euros for the tolls is the least of your worries.
I wouldn't drive there without three hundred cash on me, if not more.

my aim is to get there without breaking the speed limit by more than 5mph, so i'll be setting cruise at 85mph...

I am going in a bit of a 'stealth' motor, in a convoy including an old banger Corvette Stingray and a TVR Cerbera. I shall be driving a van (3.0 V6 CDI, 0-60 in 8 secs), do you think thay will notice me? Grumbledoak is right: forget the tolls, think speeding fines costs: they are SERIOUSLY EXPENSIVE. The French cops are vigilant, organised, and hungry for your cash. No cash or can't pay? Then it's off to the nick for you matey with your pride and joy confiscated. Watch out on every bridge and other poss. hiding place, look out for BMW motobikes in pairs, and if caught you'll likely be taken to a specially organised "fine paying booth" set up in a rest area. In my experience, it's not the days pre Le Mans but the Monday after when everyone is heading home that is the day to be really careful about speed. I'd rather laze along at 130kph keeping my money watching exotica speed by than join in the fun. I'm a boring old fart maybe, but for one day 130 will do me, particulary as I travel to France maybe 6-7 times a year...got to preserve my reputation you know.

if the french put points on your UK licence i'll be making doubly sure to keep to the speed limit.
talking of which if it's 130kph limit what are they likely to do you at?
can you risk 135 or even 140kph? i.e. 85mph?
my new passat estate has great cruise control and tells me the speed digitally in kpm aswell as mph.

Caught speeding with cash, they'll take the cash and let you go. No cash, they'll take you back to the station, fine you more, and they can put points on your UK license if they are annoyed enough (that takes hours of paperwork). Caught with an Aussie license, let off, apparently.
They have been watching what we put up with over here, and have learnt.

Trouble is....you might not even spot the speed traps. They use black tripod mounted cameras and tend to hide behind bridges. The sneaky Gendarme's car will be parked well well back from the road so you'll unlikely see that either.
Look out for truckers flashing you from the other side of the road. That's a good indicator of a speedtrap ahead.
But, having been fined in 2006 and 2007 you can just refer to me as "Monsieur limite de vitesse."
A few clicks over the limit is not too bad. They really start losing sense of humour at 30+. I was fined 130€ for 228kmh and banned at the roadside. Thankfully I had insured my wingman!
