Whats the best rate on the market at the moment?

Need to start thinking about getting some spending money sorted.

Is it going to get any better or worse over the next month or so?

Worse in the next month or so, if Darling continues with IR cuts. ECB has stated again today that inflation is their prime concern.

not really following this money lark to much , why change to dollars first?

there may be some margin in arbitrage if yout talking large amounts and institutional rates, but for a few days beer tokens? you'll lose more in costs.

speaking to an fx dealer lat week euro-sterling has been worseing recently and may well continue too, but its still a bit of a bet to buy now or not.

Would it be worth taking £'s and changing them over in France, would you get a better rate there? Anyone?

My bank advised me that I can get the best rate by withdrawing cash while abroad using my card. It's well worth having a couple of hundred Euros on you should you be stopped for speeding though!

You obviously don't take much of a risk! The speeding fines are graduated according to the severity of the offence here in France. 10/20 kph over, 90 euros, but get caught at more than 50 kph over the limit and it can be 1,500 euros and your licence taken away on the spot if the offence is really serious. Last year a Diablo owner arrived very much poorer, driven by his passenger and pretty cheesed off after being caught at 120mph on the autoroute - that's about 180kph as opposed to the 130kph limit. They tolerate 145kph (90mph) but over that - you have been warned.
