Boulogne - Le Mans best route???

Maybe I am being lazy and not mapping it, but actually it's my son who is off to the 24 hour diesel run thing in 2 weeks, I am waiting for the REAL thing, the July Classic to enjoy! Anyway, the question is, any tips on best route and what are toll charges at the moment please?

good suggestion, especially as I wrote the bit about the routes from the ports down to LM.

A good place to start is using the viamichelin site. set the options to your vehicle, fuel costs etc and let the webpage do the rest, it'll give you the toll costs and fuel costs, they are pretty accurate.

left to the default settings it will choose the autoroutes and if you are in a hurry up probably the best option, it will also give information about speed cameras etc.

the only worry if you can call it that is Rouen, the key to getting across is to follow the signs, so as you approach rouen look out for Le Havre, Caen, Le Mans, as you get across Rouen, ignore the Le Havre signs and use the Caen and Le Mans, once well out of Rouen, look out for the Le Mans sign and the A28, easy really.

We have a nice route down from Calais which minimises auto-route. Does take considerably longer though of course.

Last year I left Calais at about 8.45 (following a minor breakdown) and arrived in LM about 4ish including a stop for lunch in Les Andelys. This is in an MG Midget with a cruisng speed of about 75 on open road.

Calais to Abbeville on the autoroute then..
D901 To Marseille-En-Beauvaisis
D930 to Gournay-En-Bray
D316 to les Andelys
Across to Evereux (D316)
D830 to Conches-en-Ouche , Le Neuve-Lyre, Rugles and L’Aigle
D930 South to Mortagne-En-Perche (Cross the N12)
N938 to Belleme and Bonnetable and in to LM

Nice scenery and the French backroads always seem so un crowded. You do need to overtake when you get the chance though which is quite often as the roads are invariably clear with very good visibilty. Just need to respect the locals and slow down through vllages and towns.
