That was my experience from last year. Just arriving last year a drunk guy, beer in hand, jumped out infront of me shouting "burnout, burnout".

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was driving an Audi TT Quattro. I'd have broke the gearbox before it let go. So they just soaked the inside of the car instead.

The problem I have, and I mudst admit, im usually the first to "lay a bit of rubber" is that the supersoaker brigade target everyone. that pisses off the locals, then they target the police which just antagonises things even more.

I watched a rather nice Ferrari 348 drive past the idiots outside MasonBlanche / Blue South he didnt let it rip, and his passenger was a young boy about 3 or 4. when he didnt comply 4 or 5 idiots let rip with supersoakers. the dad was furious, the child was crying, and the crowd just kept antagonising the traffic.

Real Shame it has got to this. After my Brother did the donuts in the M3 a friend went to get his car but on the entrance to the round about some numty threw a water bomb through his window which hit him straight in the face, he took the car straight back to the camp site and parked up. Do these idiots not realise if they keep doing this no one will want to show their cars of, lay the rubeer down etc... and the whole "Mad Friday" will be lostbanghead

It was getting stupid last year, people were opening car doors as they were passing to soak the occupants

I remember the incidents with tear gas and camp Gendarmes last year. It definitely isn't the same as in previous years unfortunately. However the bloke wearing nought but an apron and riding a scooter getting hit square on the head by supersoaker power and getting some interesting road burns on his backside did make me chuckle. There was an Oxo view from the following car that I was driving though rofl

I saw that last year. I don't know what was in that spray but I know I certainly didn't want any. hehe

It is getting to a point that they are either going to have to

a) Completely ban Mad Friday and any of the antics involved with heavy policing

or

b) Put up a whole load of barriers separating the crowd from the cars which are then in a safer environment to have a bit of fun, but still probably with heavy policing. Although barriers aren't going to stop water pistols being fired (although for roofed cars, simply wind-up your window and problem solved).

I know which of those 2 I would prefer, but I think the behavior at Le Mans is only going to get worse. A vast majority of people really don't go for the race. The past 2 years I have been the only one in my group that had an interest in the actual racing (although none of them had an interest in water pistols either, which was good). And it would have been the same if I went with my friends who are going this year.

ETA: and sorry to hear about your mates Cerb. Not a nice thing to happen, especially at Le Mans.

If you went down there today and saw the appalling mess they created you'd be ashamed. Bottles, broken glass, litter everywhere. last year they were pi**ing into those supersoakers and spraying children. I'll not go near the place on Friday for fear of damage to my alloy car shell. Arnage is fair enough when it is water from a distance and only water, but Friday - not me.

Im hoping to go next year, this will be my first time. By the sounds of it though there are a few too many idiots ruining it for the proper enthuiasts like ourselves. Which would be the areas to avoid then?

This is quite upsetting really as I was hoping to go next year (or a late entry for this year should I get some work hehe) but if Le Mans is getting this way, I might just wait for the Classic in 2010

Same here. I was hoping to go next year to get it off my to do list ... but spraying piss over kids?
I might not bother if its attracting the type of people that should have been culled at birth.
