Le Mans - Mixed feelings

The scenes on the road outside Camping Houx leading up to the roundabout were verging on the sickening in my opinion. Very late Thursday and Friday night there were so many pissed up morons standing in the road that hardly any traffic could get through there, hence anyone in anything at all exotic stopped using that route.
I saw local French people in ordinary cars getting a face full of water, larger etc, some of them were even families with children! Motor bike riders getting momentarily blinded with water, and I don't mean the bikers bouncing their engines of the rev limiters, again I mean ordinary French people going about their business. Some people who were just trying to get through the moronic road block had their cars rocked by the crowds, this is just mob intimidation and hardly an appropriate way to behave as a visitor to a foreign country, can you imagine the outcry if gangs of Frenchmen behaved this way intimidating motorists outside a UK motorsport venue, I think its a f*cking disgrace! I quickly departed the scene when some idiot started throwing fireworks about at other people in the crowd.
I will not let the morons stop me from enjoying the event in the future, but its only a matter of time before someone gets run over or the CRS lose their temper and heads get broken.
On a more positive note the racing was some of the best I have seen out of the five times I have been to Le Mans, plenty of drama and excitement.
I also thought some of the crazy vehicles cobbled together buy some of the Brit fans showed a more positive side, like the pirate ship and the Judge Dread scout car that were patrolling Camping Houx were fantastic.

The reason there were these "such dreadful scenes" is because the french cops all went up to the roundabout to stop anyone having a bit of a play up there. The crowd were completely pissed off at the roundabout as no one could show off so everyone moved to the road on the straight. The cops completely messed it up as up at the roundabout traffic can actually flow rather than cars being stuck nose to nose and huge crowds building up in the roads.
Anyway I thought it was a good laugh on the road on friday night. But would have been miles better if it was at the roundabout. The cops screwed up the whole thing and made it so much worse.

I have only heard about this recently, I think its really bad. Bringing football hooliganism into motor racing?
When I was a lad and I went with Dad and the rest of the racing team there were a few drunks who would shout something at us about being British too but, they were racing fans and not going to Le Mans just to get drunk. For me that'd detract from the spectacle of the race. I was too young to drink when I first went. My fifth time I wasn't too young to drink but I didn't, I enjoyed the race until Peter flipped the CLR and Allan's Toyota was crashed. I was more upset about Peter because I thought he was killed!

It was actually worse last year at the roundabout ... resulting in several drivers getting out and confronting the said knobs and pepper spray being used by the police. Once on the roundabout a lot of drivers found themselves trapped with all exits blocked by the crowd.burriana said:

Sorry, I got this far before deciding it wasn't worth reading any further....It's the pissed up hooligans who create the dreadful scenes, NOT the police who try and control it so normal people can pass by without being intimidated or having their cars / bikes messed up.
There is NO excuse for this sort of behaviour. Period.
See also idiots letting off fireworks at stupid angles in campsites full of nylon tents..... We spent Sunday night cringing every time one went up and having to brush hot embers off cars and gazebos on a couple of occasions.
Agree with a lot of what's being said here (particularly about being stupid where people just want to get through - it's pretty obvious from the look of the cars, who's there to play, and who's just trying to get through - so don't mess up their day).
Having said that (and this was my first time at Le Mans, so I'm not the voice of experience!) both by Houx and Maison Blanche, it appeared that the idiots that were causing most of the problems and soaking the innoocents were actually French kids - in both places, the ones that were constantly drifting into the road, and were soaking/stopping everyone who went past were young and french (I'd say late teens) - in general the Brits that I saw were very well behaved, and by MB, were stood up on the bank, well away from the road, drinking a beer, chilling out and watching from a safe distance...

Dont know wher eyou were but when we went to the strait outside the annex all we saw were acts of vandalism, People jumping on cars ripping off grills, at one point one of the vett racing teams tried to get through with a box trailer only to have the doors ripped oped on the side of it. unsupprisingly the drivers got out and tried to stop the offenders!! they didnt last long before they got back in and tried to run for their lives!! i heard a few people shouting 'your not welsome hear' to them ... well if a race team isnt welcome at le mans any more who is??Anyway I thought it was a good laugh on the road on friday night. Really dissapointed!!! Fridays outside houx have just turned into a war zone full off pissed up chavs and pikeys!! definatly not what le mans is about!! oh and i saw plenty of PH t-shirts partaking in the evenings vadalism!!
Maybe the "you're not welcome here" was directed at the yobs !?
We were in Houx (not HA)...wandered up saw the chav fest. advised a few locals to turn back (including one guy with a trailer) and then went back to the campsite.
Its shame - and I do miss the old friday morning/afternoon simply cruising around admiring machinery.

Yeah it was looking bad on Friday night.
Dakkon and I headed up there at about 11ish and the road was total chaos..
So many pissed people standing in places that it was down to only one side of the road open.
In the end we got warned off with reports of cars being trashed and figuring it wasn't worth it just turned round and avoided it all.

Don't you understand that these pricks want exposure. All these threads should be locked and no one talk about it again and they'll go find another avenue to vent their tiny little minds...One way to stop this is to hyke up the price - maybe that's why you don't get this kind of trouble as F1 races. Only middle classes and above can afford the ticket prices.
The sub-human scum has ruined Le Mans for everyone. The behaviour is disgusting and only serves to re-enforce peoples opinions of 'Brits on the piss'. However regardless of what nationality they are, these cretins are not wanted at Le Mans, they are not race fans, they are fans of booze, trouble and mob intimidation.
If anyone reading this has been involved in these proceedings, regardless of the year I have a message for you:
Pack up your braincell and stay away from Le Mans, scum like you are not wanted there. Get a cheap flight to the Costa del Kev or where ever it is you people used to go. Better yet, find a secluded bit of ground and suck on your exhaust pipe and do the world a favour.

Name and shame required!Having said that, they were only having a bit of a laugh and although it would have been better if they let the firecrackers off in the road or verge, they were not chucking stuff at cars.
