I thought it was time I put my thoughts across.

My group of 3 cars paid £735 compared to the £150 or so it would have been just on BSJ normally. That's just under a £600 premium for WRR, which we were happy to pay for what we were promised:

Security: I give credit to the guys on the gate, they were friendly and did check people/cars. However there was still a break in, and possibly there could have been more patrols to deal with this.

Toilets/Showers: The toilets were generally ok, but for most of the week I had no hot showers, and people that arrived on Monday/Tuesday had no facilities at all from what I'm told. From speaking to other people, the public toilets/showers were actually pretty good and were well maintained by the locals - and were always hot.

Beer/Food: I thought we were paying a premium so we had a decent bar and food, not so that members of the public could use the same facilities, and be charged similar prices to the circuit. If I wanted this, I could have walked just down the road to the public BSJ bar/food place.

Space: We were promised loads of space, and although my group did ok - others were less fortunate.

I understand some things were outside Guys control, but when you hold an event for one weekend of the year - it must be right first time, there shouldn't be 'teething troubles'.

I feel that I got a bit more than the normal £50 camping pass, but in no way did it justify the £600 premium.
It was a PH event too, so decided there should be some discussion here.

PH needs to be much more careful to what it puts its name against, in light of the recent let downs due to 3rd parties (e.g. the Lotus competition).

I'm afraid I have to agree with Matt

We arrived at midday on friday and were put into a tiny spot near to Guy and his friends, its lucky we were just one tent and two people as had we been a car load of four all with our own tents then we would have been in trouble.

The security were however very good. Barry who appeared to be running the Gate/toilets/showers/cleaning/patrols pretty much on his own did a sterling job. It appeared that he had been abandoned by the others and he would have been well within his rights to have thrown in the towel but fortunately for us he didn't. I think Guy owes him an exceptionally large beer.

The catering arrangements were a joke. We had exclusive access to the same kebab/burger bar as the rest of the campsite, the only difference being we had paid a premium to use it.

The Showers and Toilets were of a good standard, or at least they would have been if they had been cleaned regularly and had hot water.

So to recap, heres what we got for our £200 premium

Extra space - No
Exclusive bar - No
Restaurant - No
Hot clean showers - No
Clean Toilets - No

As such we would have been better off (and I don't just mean financially) had we just had the normal campsite package.

Very disappointed PHfrown

Nicely said Matt.

One of the few positives were the security guys - they were a great bunch of lads, and I did pity the crap they had to do.

Hi guys

We contemplated this but went back with Speedchills like last year who offered basically something very similar. I think it cost £200 for me and my dad for access to the area and their club membership but we got exactly what they offered.

Extra space - no 35ish sq m like everyone, a few who arrived late looked a little cramped but still had space.
Exclusive Bar - yes
Restaurant - Yes - serving a good range of home style cooked food
Hot Clean showers - Yes, apart from a short period of no hot water.
Clean Toilets - Yes, no problems at all
Security - Yes
Friendly staff - yes, great bunch of guys (and girls)

We took 5 le mans virgins with us and they thought it was an excellent setup and planning next years already.

Ok you pay a bit extra for food and drink but its expected at places like this.

We had no problems with noise unlike last year being amongst the normal camping.
Good humoured fun with the occasional water balloon

Just remember next year other options are available.(and no i don't work for them)

this was their fifth year so no doubt they have improved their service over the years as I'm sure the WRR site will do.

Oh dear not again ! I went last year with Speedchills whilst a friend went with WRR. They were less than impressed last yaer and felt that they had not got value for money.

All I can say is if your looking for good catering and everything else promised, go with Speedchills as they do deliver. I didn't go this year, but if and when I do go back I know who I will be booking with.

It looks like WRR still have a lot to learn.

We had one break in that I am aware of. Very disappointing of course but if someone is really determined they will do it not matter what. Next year we will certainly have a lot more people on patrol. When planned however, we were only supposed to be exposed on 2 sides but with the weather and having to shift everything to a new spot we subsequently had to try and protect 4 sides

Very annoying for me. The boilers kept tripping out for unknown reasons. We had the suppliers back and forth on Friday and they promised they'd fix it but it transpired that although they replaced a part they hadn't. Then stopped answering the phone from Saturday morning. If it's any consolation I suffered cold showers too! At least we had decent water pressure throughout rather than the dribble you usually get in the public ones! And toilets with seats on them!

Beer/Food: I thought we were paying a premium so we had a decent bar and food, not so that members of the public could use the same facilities, and be charged similar prices to the circuit. If I wanted this, I could have walked just down the road to the public BSJ bar/food place.
This year we HAD to use ACO preferred suppliers which for catering is effectively one company. Therefore we got what we were given. The bar/food was a convenience. Use it or don't use it. Will look at alternatives for next year however but I'm not entirely sure we even need it. To be fair though, we did get them to reduce the prices on the WRR side of the bar.

Space: We were promised loads of space, and although my group did ok - others were less fortunate.
Primarily down to having to shift location and the state of the land in general. It was flooded the weekend immediately before! We did the best with what we had. You have to consider that the catering & tipis take up some space and also that we arranged things so that every car could get out if they wanted to.

I understand some things were outside Guys control, but when you hold an event for one weekend of the year - it must be right first time, there shouldn't be 'teething troubles'.There will always be issues in every event, no matter how experienced you are. It's just a fact! You just try and manage what you can and learn for the next time. We appreciated that people mucked in and got on with enjoying themselves.

I feel that I got a bit more than the normal £50 camping pass, but in no way did it justify the £600 premium.
The cost was what it was because that it what is costs! Sadly it's not as simple as just buying 130 passes and fencing off an area. The ACO charge the most enormous premium for you to have your own space and you wouldn't believe what those toilets cost to rent! They were a lot more plush than I was expecting!

Also similarly posted on WRR under constructive feedback - there's no point not being constructive, so here's a balanced view after a good night's sleep.

The biggest problem I have with 'Area 24' is that PH's presence largely consisted of, well... the name. Oh, and matey trying to flog overpriced T-shirts. So far as I could see it was entirely organised by Guy and the security chaps; to whom thanks for their hard work and largely successful efforts to keep everything going. There's no doubt the ACO are arses to deal with - let's face it, they're French and they can.

- On the subject of the catering, I'm not sure what I expected but that wasn't it - it wasn't English-style food or French-style, it was a mish mash of the two. I think they killed their business in the first two days when we'd all be shopping and said "actually, no, I can buy 24 stubbies for the price of a pint." What happened to the hog roast, the proper bacon... Deeply amusing having to explain to the staff in French words of one syllable what 'a sandwich' is though. ("What, you mean bread, then something on top of it, and then ANOTHER bit of bread?!?!").

- The revised WRR-only prices were quite good though - €4.50 for a pint is London-price and I can (did) cope with that for a cold one when I wanted. And the "burger" and mountain of chips was good value too.

- The tepees were wicked - but apart from Tuesday night before we all went shopping there was, so far as I could see, no atmosphere around them; making them rather an expensive luxury.

- Anyone complaining about the toilets should ponce off back to the Hilton; you're camping and not having your 'nads shined by your butler twice daily is part of it. Might need a bigger bin next time though, and lights all night not just when the bar feel like firing up the genny.

- The showers were brilliant by 'festival' standards but the lack of hot water (for some - I only had one cold shower!) was disappointing - I take the point that the boiler kept breaking down, and these things happen.

- Would have been better to mark out the 'roads' on Monday when Guy etc arrived if possible; us Tuesday arrivees just plonked ourselves where looked good - but in fairness Tuesday was 'earlier than the official start' so not a biggy.

- So come on PHsters, what exactly happened to the fabled PS2/TV/Eurosport/etc that you were supposed to be bringing? I'm guessing 'forgot'. Seeing the flyers for the PH/Autosport show cracked me up - PH couldn't be arsed to push WRR's 'event' on this website (a couple of stories 6 months ago is not 'pushing') but still leave the PH show stuff around?

Still, I had a great time. A REALLY great time. And I will be back, if only because I cannot go to my grave without seeing the cars at Mulsanne corner at 3am again. Yes, Mad Friday is maybe a bit too mad. The traffic's iffy (although not too bad actually). The weather is a force of nature. But you can't call yourself a petrolhead until you've done Le Mans.

As posted elsewhere - irrespective of whether PH endorses WRR next or not - and even if Team Bull do go elsewhere and arrange their own weekend, I still won't be going with WRR.

We stayed in Team Langoustines camp site at TR, there was only a slight premium to the ticket prices over HA last year (our weekend incl ferries, camping and entry tickets cost circa £130 per person), we were promised a certain amount of space which wasn't delivered when we arrived (bit disapointed with that), however we did manage to squeeze our group of 6 in close to one another which gave us somewhere to sleep, the showers were always clean and hot, they had a bar area but not food (which wasn't part of the deal anyway)! There didn't seem to be security on the gate but never really saw people wandering onto site...

All in all though our group was happy and thought for the first year TL have been on that site they done well, just think the camping spaces could be improved. We will definatley go back with them again.... espeacially when you way up the cost of their site in comparison to others.

I went down with WRR this year (my second at Le Mans) and had a fantastic time, as did the four LM virgins that came with me. We had everything we wanted and needed in the camp.

The highlights of Area24 for me were the fact that almost without exception, everyone I met was friendly and up for a laugh, we could get the cars in and out with ease, we had sufficient space to pitch our tents together (arriving Thursday evening) and the shower and toilet facilities were a great touch (even though the showers sometimes spat ice blocks at you!). I certainly was not expecting toilets with laminate wood flooring, porcelain and the holy grail of a toilet seat!

The lows, if i have to mention any, are perhaps that the choice of food was not extensive to say the least, but I know the catering situation was forced upon the organisers so they didn't have much control over that.

I've had one of the best weekends ever, and thanks to WRR who helped make that happen!

And what exactly is the problem of that? I went with WRR last year, I had a great time this year, and I support them in what they do.

My 'website' is an outdated personal attempt at building a website which I got bored with but had built up some links and therefore when people (on the very rare occasion) visit the site, I suggest they go to another site which I was involved in and is motorsport related.

Ok, it may well be me being cynical, but it does Guy no good whatsoever, in fact the opposite, when someone puts a spin, intentional or otherwise, on an endorsement to make it look like it is impartial or unbiased when it obviously is not.

Personally, I thought that the WRR was a little overpriced but understand that the ACO takes the rip with that side of things.

I also felt really sorry for Guy when his plans went tits up due to the weather.

Let any comments be fair and unbiased though so that Guy and the WRR team can address them where possible for next year.

If Team Langoustine can make a success of it, then I'm sure, so can Guy smile

Fair comment.

Still, I can genuinely say it is an honest post. Maybe the fact that I 'support' WRR means I don't have as much of a problem with things as others, but it really is just my opinion.

Christ we paid 50 euros per car for the BSJ camping.
£100 each on food and beer

so for £125 we had

As much cold beer from ice cold cool boxes
as much steak, ribs, chops, sausages as we wanted
cold showers
left everything in the cars so it was safe

and we beat you guys in the make as much mess as you wanted competition sunday afternoon

Turbo MX5 did well though!

The thing is that from the outset this package was meant to offer a proper step up from the basic campsites at LM, yet when things don't work like promised (overpriced catering, low on space and cold showers) the supporters seem to think they can simply claim "Hey it's Le Mans, ruff it for a bit and don't expect too much"..... A philosophy I agree with but thankfully I didn't pay a £200 premium to be told it. I can't see the value added of £200 and I think that was the original point of the thread, it's about what did my £200 get me? In the end it got nothing particularly tangible; customers don't want to know about dealing with suppliers and how expensive things were etc, they want to know why they didn't get much more than if they had spent £50, the £200 buys them out of having to deal with crappy reasons and they'll be happy as long as they actually get what they paid for. From an outsiders point of view I spoke to a couple of people camping with WRR, there was pretty much unhappiness, it seems basic misselling of benefits, broken promises and lack of communication down there, I'd be wanting some money back truth be told. Team Langoustine for £155 had a very similar set of aims for those that did want a step up from the basic campsites, thats £100 less or thereabouts than Area 24; one look at the other thread running about them would indicate they achieved those aims and on a site that was far better located (so assume the unit cost would have been higher from the ACO) - assuming they run a similar setup next year and now that H.Annexe will be gone, I know were I will be I am afraid.

Ok a copy of what i have posted on WRR

Well said Mattt

Now i will be as constructive as possible, and it is up to those who organise such an event to take notice or ignore comments.
I am not out for an argument or bhing just my opinions and factual occurrances.

After many years of Le-mans trips under my own steam booking campsite and ferry etc on various sites i thought i would give WRR a look as it seemed to be well established setup offerering the luxuries that you would not get elsewhere. Added to this backed by PH and imo promoted very well by PH.

It became apparent on the run up to the event that catering/bar was going to be an issue, so when the inevitable happened it was no surprise. The lack of hogroast traditional english food etc didn't happen! and the fact beer started off at 6 euros a pint, in all this wasn't too much of an issue as we always come prepared. But to those who came expecting to eat and be merry for a reasonable price were left un-catered for.

The fact that toilets and showers were not provided until WEDNESDAY was in my opinion NOT ON, we paid for facilities and didn't get them. The fact that the showers weren't in any way warm or fit for purpose is appalling. Some one should have kicked arse with the ACO/supplier.

I fully understand the logistics of language barriers and lack of enthusiasm from our French fellows but....Leaving the job of explaining the fault to the plumber for Brad to do was not the way to go, the security guys did a sterling job and to my mind kept the site in order. So much so we bought them a crate of beer.

And its sad to say that GUY you were not there half the time when you should have been supporting them! How you avoide a mutiny baffles me.

Team no Bull you gained no respect from me when you told the security guy to feck off after he asked if you could turn it down a bit! He had enough on his plate without you showing total disrespect over the mike, a tip for you... Sunday night is not the night for that sort of party as most people want to get their heads down before a 8 -10 hour journey some even longer. Whilst i don't agree with the threats of violence towards you perhaps your attitude may have attracted it ?

The lack of camping space is down to Pi55 poor planning, take out the fact you had to move site due to poor ground issue's you had not planned for the area taken by roadways, tepees, toilets, showers, and the bar.

In my honest opinion Someone should have been in Le-Mans on the friday before the event to oversee that items and issues were being dealt with before they became a problem on Monday.

This all said and done the state of the toilets during the week can't be blamed on WRR organisers, it is down to the general users what vile animals you all are!

The tradition of Le-mans is not about loud music and getting lashed up beyond all realms of stupidity, its about the worlds greatest 24 hr car race, smell of petrol/diesel, the sound of large engines being thrashed to an inch of there life, and good old fashioned camaraderie.

A good idea was presented here but failed on the basics.

Guy i sincerly wish you all the very best in the future with your events, but this has put me off WRR for a very long time, and please give your security guys a huge barrel of beer because they deserve it!
