Speeding - double whammy

Heard on the froggy radio this morning that a brit was caught twice by the same gendarme on the A28, at 236 kph going down to Le Mans, and 227 kph coming back. 5k€ fine, 2 year suspended sentence, and they would have confiscated his car except [NOTE!!] that it didn't belong to him, it belonged to a car club so could not be seized. This is what pushes french people to register their sportscars in the names of wives, parents, etc.

Apparently he's an estate agent, so I'm finding it hard to feel sorry for him, but I guess they are human too....

I was being relieved of 90 euros when he was pulled in for the second time. He had a black 612 from P1. He knew they were going to throw the book at him. His wife sat on the road with her head in her hands. Was surprised when he told me they'd taken his licence and 750 euros 2 days before that he'd been pushing it so hard. As we were allowed to leave we overheard the police say that he would have to spend the night in the nick...

We though ourselves lucky and crawled off.

Have to say, despite the fact that we were made to wait around (and thus almost miss the chunnel) the whole process was fairly painless. Similar speeds in the UK would mean a court appearance so 90 euros is pretty low. If you take the pi55 though (as this guy did), they pull your pants down. I think upto 200kmph is 90 euros and above that it starts to hurt.

As an aside, if you don't have the cash on you they just escort you to a cashpoint at a local town so there's no need to have wads of cash if you go abroad as is sometimes recommened.

I think it's how much over the limit you are, up to 40km over and you're looking at €90, up to 50km and its €135. We were done at 54km over the limit... €750 and no driving in France for 6 months in France. We weren't the fastest on the day however, just pipped by by an F40. You don't get to see the camera, what they says goes.

Better than uk points though

You're lucky... same speeds in France by French and you just lose your licence.
This is where having a good lawyer helps as you're almost sure to get all (ye ALL) your points back...
But this is costly !

So the car's details are now on the French Police system. What happens next time someone has the same car from P1 and takes it to France?
