Track Laps

High folks i'm new to this forum but would like to ask some of you LM Classic veterans if helmets are required for the track laps on Saturday morning.

Helmets are not required for the parade laps as they are behind a pace car and therefore controlled.

Mind you if its anything like 06, if you push the pace car they will respond, 140 down the Mulsanne is no parade lap in my book !!!!!!!!

Yeah we had three allocated for 31 going, looks like a popular part of the weekend, my mates not got one and said he's goin to kidnap me missus if i dont give him mine, how fast did Andy say if the pace cars pushed.

It depends. When I did "Bleus de France" they were mandatory (but this was explained well beforehand). For club car parade laps, they weren't.

It also depends how far in front the pace car is... In 2004 we didn't see one, so it was flat out all the way

Try to arrive early as parade laps accept many many cars... those behind may have to slow down b'cause of too much traffic and crazy drivers !
There are also very different cars driving alltogether, such as an XJ220 Jag along with an old XK120.

My dear chaps a little tip.

When doing the parade lap's let the pace car and all others get away thus after 1/4 of a lap they have all gone and you can get on with driving the nuts off your car.

This is what i have done in the Fezza for the last three classic events

Satrurday morning 10:15-ish was just the same. I am not sure if there was a pace car or not - it was still flat out all the way until traffic bunched up

Ditto - saw 145mph on the Mulsane Straight on Saturday at around 1300hrs and not a pace car in sight....and I was the first out - not trying hard enough

Ah. You didnt see the Lotus spin off at the Dunlop chicane? Nearly wet myself... and all those Morgans going straight on - presumably because their steering wheels would not turn to the left. To see one bloke's wife belting him for careless driving was worth the entry fee alone.

Got to do two laps in my Triumph Spit 6 on the Saturday morning - whatarush!

No sign of any pace car.

Red line in top gear down Mulsanne (only 100 but feels so much faster than a modern)

I'm a big LM fan and know the course like the back of my hand from playing on the play station. Clearly lots of others didn't have a clue where they were. One bloke in a modified stag touched 140 then realised the Mulsanne is not one long straight anymore! Got some speed off but still ploughed across the gravel (and kept going!).

Had the start finish straight to myself both laps the sound from the Tamora (de catted) was fantastic, the pace car guy at the top just waved us through so did'nt bother looking for another just got on and enjoyed it, fantastic weekend.

I saw so many spin off @ the Dunlop curves...
De Tomaso, Morgan, TR6... it's a kind of miracle that up to 4 cars in a row can make it without any trouble.

Have to say that those in front lines looked like skilled drivers, whatever their cars... from DB6 to big and heavy Iso 4 door !!!

The mix of cars on a same grid from prewars to Porsche Carrera GT is quite odd and frightening at some times.
