Generator for camping

Hi Folks,

Need a generator for Le Mans 2009 to power the motorhome. Know absolutely nothing about them. Anyone got any tips on what features to look for, where to get a cheap one etc. Just needs to be reiliable I suppose.

2.5 kwa minimum Kapor or Honda will be powerful and quiet enough.

YOu can get tiny ones from Halfrauds or on the web for as little as £50 but the more expensive ones are so much quieter. I use my Halfords one just for running lights etc at night but it's a little noisy to leave on all the time.

POWWWEEEERRRRRR! That's given me a business idea. What about designer generators, say a blinged up small block Chevy on a frame powering a big dynamo/alternator. Noone would complain about the noise of that thing powering your fridge.

Whilst we are on the subject, how would I know what size of generator to power/charge the leisure battery on a motorhome. The motorhome isn't mine, and the chap that owns it doesn't use a generator.

another vote here for spending the extra and getting a quieter one. we had no issues in 07 but this year we were camped across the way from someone using a rather large rattly generator to power their home-from-home. Noise I can bear, the general hubbub of a campsite, and I love to hear the cars screaming round the track from the tent, but 4 days solid (and i mean near 24hrs a day) of this generator so this guy could watch his tv was a little much!

There's one in B&Q at the minute, over 2KW for £150.

Or pay a little extra for a space in Houx, £1.99 on one of these and plug in to the mains for all the silent power you could want.
