Hotel recommendations
Discussion
next year we are possibly thinking of staying in town... can anyone recommend a good hotel with car parking. after many years of camping on circuit and off, we would like to stay in town and use the tram system back and forth the circuit.
i remember people saying last year that hotels were being block booked by companies and the hotel would bump your booking off...dont wont that to happen.

Realistically finding a hotel in town is going to be neigh on impossible , very few of the motorsport tour operators have anything and the rest get block booked years in advance.
Your best bet would be to use an operator and stay in one of the outlying towns, we have been going to Alencon for years and it works very well indeed for us.

joncon,
You have no chance in my view and past experiences. All the teams, promoters, fans, commentators, manufacturers etc and most importantly the tour operators will have booked all the hotels within 40-50 miles of Le Mans. I have already booked for my son and I and we're 80 miles away and I've been to the hotel several times before...it means sleeeping in the car on the Saturdday night which, in fact, is great because you can go to the circuit at night and early morning when, in our view, the racing is at its best. If you really really want a hotel in town or within reasonable driving distance of the circuit then you'll need to book a tour with one of the usual companies which will include all the travel, the hotel, and also the circuit tickets of which you will need a general entrance ticket and then if you want seat in a stand you'll need the ticket specific for that stand, plus a parking ticket. Think in terms of around £1000 for a tour all up...cross channel, hotel for 3 nights, tickets, parking...covering two people travelling in one car. I have used a tour company several times and although pricey I do think their package is actually pretty good.
Send me an e-mail if you want any more details.

thanks for that.
the last couple of years we have stayed about an hour away, down near tours.
which is a great drive back and forth the track...rarely any police because they are normally on the north side of le mans.
but a couple of the guys are missing the night life in le mans centre which used to be a big part of the trip , so at the moment we are just sending feelers out to see what alternatives are available.
on the return journey this year from italy we found an ace chateau which i thought would be a great base...but you cant please everyone in your group..
one suggestion has been to go back to camping on circuit..... after the rain of 2006 and 2007 , doesnt appeal.

Supposedly the spring John but I have to go to the Mairie and find out who the owner is to enquire further. There are also two more hotels being built, one mostly for SNCF employees but sometimes available (200 rooms) and another potentially near Arnage but further details on that awaited. Incidentally, popped in for a drink today - took the D type out for probably its last run of the year since it was mild and dry.
