Me and a mate are thinking of doing Le Mans this year. After reading another thread I've just got horror stories in my head.
I like a party atmosphere as much as the next man but I'll be taking a Merc 2.5-16 so don't exactly want it ruined!
There will just be 2 off us, camping and we need parking. What would our best options be?

Cheers.

You really don't have much to worry about at most of the sites. Once your car is there and parked up, it's in very little danger! Just try to get there before Friday. I've been in the allegedly-rowdy Houx Annexe camp for the last three years, I've never had anything thrown in, on or at my cars (which have included an XJR and a modified Audi S4), and I've never had anything done to them either. Actually scratch that, I managed to lose the head of a mallet smashing up some firewood and hit one of my cars with the head of it, but that was my own fault really... whoops...

The stuff about various fluids being chucked in cars is a Friday thing. Get there before Friday, or if you're going on the Friday, lock your doors and wind up your windows as you get near the camp. Job jobbed! biggrin

ETA: I assume you mean two people in the one car? Most of the campsites state one tent per vehicle but that rule has never been strictly enforced with the group I travel down with, but still, if you're only after a single plot, it shouldn't be hard to find one at one of the sites. Look on beermountain to see which site looks most like your thing, and then hunt around the usual places to see who can supply you with tickets - speedchills, 1st tickets etc. We booked our tickets through Tickets2U, 08712 088770 - they did a package for 1 camping pass and 2 general admission tickets for about £170.

As -JUT- said the less mentally developed only crawl out of their holes on Friday afternoon/evening and then only infest Houx Annex roundabout (that's inside the circuit so only really gets race traffic) and to a lesser extent the road past Maison Blanche and the bar in the middle of the Mulsanne straight (both public roads used by non-race traffic so get a little more police attention).

If possible arrive earlier in the week, pop to the supermarket Friday morning (if necessary) then leave the car parked-up on the campsite until you leave on Sunday (or better still, Monday).

Quite honestly if you have problems it's probably your own fault - if you haven't drunk too much to drive by Friday lunch time then you just aren't trying hard enough! wink

As for camping options I'm not sure there are really any BAD campsites any more, though in general the further you are from the 'village' the more temporary facilities become. If you will be coming down early in the week then any site will be fine. If your doing a mad dash last Thursday/Friday then I'd try to get one a site with marked, numbered pitches (used to be just Houx but likely to be ~1/2 the sites in '09) as you know there will be a space with your name on it and it's one less thing to worry about.

Do what we do, IF you are worried about damage to your car or kit, go in something that does not matter if it gets damaged and then go somewhere else to show your car. In reality, I've stayed at Houx Annexe two years and not had a prob, but it is true that there is an element that seem to turn up and loose control of themselves, but you just have to walk away from them.

Hopefully 'that' element won't be able to afford to go this year.

Having said that, I saw a bunch of coppers behaving like you wouldn't believe in Arnage. Opening doors and squirting people with ketchup and mustard from the bar. rolleyes

More or less what I'd expect from your average police man - though it's missing the usual edge of bullying and racisum.

Somebody is putting my name against someone elses quote, at this stage, I will accept an apology if this is promptly rectified.
