Possible first time at Le Mans

Hi there.

I'm thinking about going on an aventure to Le Mans this year. I've read comments about last year and it sounds absolutley excellent.

Am I too late in arranging this as it sounds like all the campsites will be booked?

If I manage to get a plot on a campsite, how much do you think it would be? I have looked all over the net, and on the beermountain site but can't find anything on how much it would cost.

This will be for 2 people, a 4 man tent and a car.

No, its not too late, but you can't be fussy.

Just try the ticket agents websites, they'll all have at least something.

You will only need one camping pass for two people, one car and one tent.

Suggest you will be looking at under £200 for the camping pass and two general admission tickets to the circuit from most of the agencies - aside from that, budget for fuel, tolls, ferry etc - depends on what you are driving.

Supermarkets are infinitely cheaper for food and drink than buying at the circuit. A case of 24 stubbies is around 7 euros in the supermarkets, a pint at the stella bar is around 5 euros...

Thanks guys. I've found the link on the LM24Hr website to the agencies.

I think i'm looking at around £350 per person for the weekend.

The package costs £209 for the ferry, tickets and the campsite.
Fuel will be about £250 to get there are back (working on 20p a mile) (Added extra just incase)
Then spending money which will be about £100 I think.

So split the package and fuel costs = £230 then spending moolah.

Does this sound about right?

£209 for ferry camping and tickets looks very cheap, tickets are Eur 62 each camping euro 80 for a decent one so thats eur 204 already without the ferry and agency fees.

Try speedchills mate for a price all in, secure parking/camping and they have onsite fresh tiolets and showers, they even have onsite cooking so you can grab a sarnie, or evening meal while you sit in the marquee watching the eurosport coverage on the big TV with a cool pint!!

For anyone who's starting to panic, be reassured that tickets are generally floating around on Fleabay right up to the last minute. I got my hands on a camping pass for Houx Annexe about two weeks before Le Mans last year, and my friend got one about two days prior to the actual event. Same with ferry tickets - if you're not too fussy about times / routes (ie don't mind arriving in say Dunkirque at 4am), you can get a cheap, last-minute crossing. It's a fantastic event and one of the highlights of the year, so hope you can make it, and see you there!

You can't avoid the Lanson tent .... and I feel a Grand Marnier Crepe or two for Sunday breakfast is de rigeur as our french chums would say

Not sure I've ever got away with just £100 even when I was doing it on the cheap .... go with the best intentions to buy beer at a LeClerc etc but let's face it - you'll wake up pissed one morning with a Pescarolo T-Shirt, an inflatable sheep, 2 Diecast Porsche 917s, a pillow made out of that inedible donut string thing and a hole in your wallet

3AM - Wake up, walk to car park opposite main entrance and play the guess-which-laze-chainsmoking-French-bus-driver-is-actually-going-to-do-some-work game.

Watch night racing at Arnage, trying to keep warm on a mix of coffee and glowing brake disks.

Catch bus on to Mulsanne to watch the sun come up.

7AM - catch bus back to entrance, grabbing a Grand Marnier Crepe breakfast on teh way back to the campsite.
