Euro Exchange Rate

Wondering what peoples thoughts were on the Euro exchange rate? (Rubbish is not the reply I am looking for!)

Travelex offering 1.0825 today. Any very clever people want to say if they think that will change significantly before Le Mans?

Also, where is the best place to buy to get the best rate? (Travelex seem most competitive I have found)

Suggest you try the Post Office which usually has very competitive rates

I still have ten euro's left over from last year that I've been carrying around in my wallet. One of my finer investments in the last 12 months, but not sure why I didn't liquidise it at the track.

M&S are often the best on the high street.

Think we're all going to have to accept its going to be an expensive one this year!

I checked M&S exchange rate on the net a couple of weeks ago, I changed £500 and got 540 euros. The rate they gave me in store was poorer than there web quoted price, the girl at the store explained the rate on the web is for money ordered on the web!

TBH the difference in euros when dealing with such small amounts is fairly minimal and probably not worth the effort and time spent searching around.

Good point, but i never like to feel like i've been conned!

Having a quick look again it does seem that travelex web rate is the best around. For refernence it only works out best buying it online if you get over £500 to get the free delivery.

Another vote for Travelex - their rates are consistently better than the Post Office and M&S.

I always order my currency and pick it up from whatever terminus I'm traveling from, be it ferry, Eurotunnel or airport. Saves on hassle and you get the best rates that way.

If you go onto Money/Travel Supermarket.com and look for travel money you get a number of firms offering good rates, usually by post. You need to buy a min of £300 worth of currency to get free postage.

Can't claim to be very clever, but living in France I am an avid Euro watcher. Although there seems to be good support whenever the rate drops towards €1.10, there is no obvious reason why it should become significantly higher than current rates before June.

Currently, I am just buying it as soon as I have spare funds available and hoping that it will come good, next year.

The best exchange rate over the past 10 years or so is through using a Nationwide debit card at a hole in the wall. Last week I got 1.13 to the pound. There's no commission charge which is why it's so good.
Admittedly it's not worth opening an account for the yearly trip to Le Mans but if like me you go abroad every month the savings are considerable.

I totally agree, this card, together with, SAGA and Post Office credit cards are definitely the best way to pay in Europe and worldwide, as the transactions take place at the Interbank (best) rate for the day of the transaction.

Most places in France accept plastic, including fuel stations and peages.
