Every year I've driven through Rouen the same old way - through the tunnel, over the bridge, hang a right and bimble through the industrial area (usually in traffic) until you pick up the autoroute heading west.
But does anyone on here take the seemingly more obvious route of just carrying on straight on after the bridge and picking up the N338, which is dual carriageway all the way to the A13 ?
Is traffic an issue ? Does it have painfully slow speed limits ? Or have I just been missing a trick all these years ?
It looks very simple on the map so I can't see why you *wouldn't* go that way, unless anyone knows otherwise ??

Doesn't appear to be, but I've not seen mention of it in any directions on how to get to Le Mans.Google maps seems to think it's the way to go as well, but would be good to get some 'real-world' experience of what it's like before I head off into the unknown !!

If you look at Rouen on http://maps.google.fr then the 'new' route is the orange road leading south out of the city, marked N138 (!), the 'old' route is parallel to the west, marked D3.

It runs parallel to the river on the east of Rouen.
The 'new' route is the E46 / N338 (N138 as was) which runs to the west of the city.
The D3 is a route I think I may have taken by mistake once, but it's not the one I was thinking of.

The N338 is the traditional route for me, but then I usually come down from Dieppe and am therefore crossing the river further over that way, although it appears from the Google map that there is a new bridge, that wasn;t there two years ago, as I don't think the bridge I usually use is the one to the left on the map. Indeed look on the aerial view of the map and it isn't there!
I wonder if coming from Calais it will be quicker to come down the A28 turn right onto the E44 then left on to the A151 for the drop down into Rouen and a fast route through the town?

Looks to add distance for no real benefit in terms of the approach to Rouen, but I'll have a closer look.Nick M said:

EFA - there are concrete cows in Milton Keynes. But they're not on a roundabout.
