mine has to be 1995, waching my hero Mario Andretti racing, almost winning,
the maclaren cars filling five out of the top six places.
that was my first trip, 22 tvrs in convoy, blasting around northern france ... took 8 hours to go from cherbourg to le mans, via d-day beaches.
seems like yeserday.
roll on 11th june.

1989 for me. My friends and I had been doing Le Mans for a few years by then, so had properly got the hang of it. The weather was fantastic, the company I was in was fantastic, the Jaguar/Sauber battle was awesome, the WM Peugeot broke the trap record on the straight (when it was still straight) - and for the first time, we sneaked onto the Mulsanne during the night to experience the shockwave of the Mercs and Jags as they blasted by, less than 10 feet away from us. It was a great year, that one.
By fantastic co-incidence, I flew back into the US from Munich yesterday and 2 rows in front of me, sat Herr Jochen Mass, who co-drove the winning #63 car that year. We chatted in the immigration line (he's a consultant for MB and was visiting their plant in North Carolina).
He's getting on a bit now and his English is not great (better than my German, however), but it was quite an honour to meet him.

We're supposed to never forget losing our virginity so it could be 1996 for me, which was the last of the McLaren F1 success years. However, I really think the Toyota GT1s versus the Mercedes CLK GTRs were also great moments. Actually, on refelction, I really am a fan of GT2 and particularly the Lizards so maybe memories of any of the more recent years will keep me happy.

This year will be the best, well until next year, the anticipation is really getting to me!
Ditto for me, I'm only on my 3rd outing this year, 07 was the best even with all the rain, then '08 was best as there was less rain than before, so this will be the best one as it won't rain at all!!2008, just because of the following story..
Was so freaked about the R-GT sound from the years before that... somewhere before saturday evening it went into the pits for some hours, we were convinced that it wasn't running anymore. Huge bummer for me, the first time it come by me on the straight in 2006... I had tears in my eyes... god I love that sound. So anyway, we went to have a BBQ to go to Arnage after... in the car we were listening to Radio Le Mans and through the chatter and people talking in the car I could hear 'her' coming buy in the pits. Everyone called me crazy... but as we came up to Arnage... there she was, back in all her glory.... Perfect, I went nuts again.. teary eyed... Awesome that there are two running this year. The dinstinct sound of the V12 is perfect... Probably going to go crazy over the Lola Aston this year I suppose...Especially if Jos 'the Boss' Verstappen will be driving it...
