There is divided opinion regarding the best route Jiber, but I still think the majority of people on this forum prefer the N138.

There is a small thread here... A28 vs N138

Ive gone for a non motorway route, starting near St Omar then working my way down on D roads between Rouen and Paris, Should end up entering Le mans from the East near Tet rouge corner, plenty of villages to go through for a bit of Lunch biggrin

We're thinking of giving that sort of route a try, we're in BSJ so it should save us getting lost coming through Le Mans that we seem to manage every year banghead

Has to be the N138 for me was so quiet last year and much more fun, stopping in a few bars on the way down too!

As I travel to Le mans from Le Havre very regular I sometimes for a change take the N138 (which I think is now re-named the D338). As Le Bounty is South of Le Mans to save the hassle of going through the city I finish off on the A28 and take J25 (Ecommoy) then head North as going back into Le Mans, Mulsanne is only about 11k from the turn off.

Does all of the old N138 now re-named D338?

We've used the A28 the last two times, but it is very dull compared to the pre-motorway days!

Tried to use the old route last year, but we got fed up with the signage changes and getting lost, so ended using the motorway again

Just stand on any street in Rouen, and you will see dozens of sports cars driving around aimlessly - with the driver and co-driver arguing over directions.

Or is that just me?

In Rouen its the N338 then changes to N138 then to the E402 if you head towards A13 going towards Caen you can pick up D438 head towards Bernay. Stay on the D438 till you get to Alencon then it changes to the D338 all the way to Le Mans.
I join the A28 just as I am coming into Le Mans then A11 then A28 again towards Tours) turn of at J25 then back onto the D338 towards Le Mans

All Clear Great......Good Luck

PS If you follow this route and get lost pop into Le Bounty (you pass it on the right (2k) after you see Super U on the left and ask for Steve lol
