Stickers on a rental car?

is it wise/possible to get stickers onto and off a rental car for the le mans weekend? We'd be applying them in the queue for the ferry in Dover and trying to remove them in a car park somewhere on the way back. Is the application/removal process particularly time consuming/difficult?

We were looking at the application & removal kits sold on hollographics, will they be sufficient for the job or do we need some extra tools?

Hairdryer and patience. Plus occasionally a bit of sticky residue remover.

I reckon it will be no problem what so ever.

never used a hairdryer to remove and never been left with any residue when taking off vinyl stickers

they will only have been on, by the sounds of it 2-3 days, so there will be no issues.

Remember though, you will need somewhere to plug your hairdryer into!!!!

I've never had any trouble getting stickers off, with and without a hairdryer or kettle.

A friend, however, pulled a strip of paint away from his Elise, so maybe taking out the extra damage excess waiver for a few quid would be a good idea? (Plus I always find that it helps me enjoy the car more )

Try rubbing a thin layer of vaseline on before the sticker. Always works for me. What you do with the rest of the vaseline is up to you!

I use a fine spray of water with a drop of fairy liquid, onto the car and if its large onto the back of the sticker. They always come off fine

If in doubt just sticker up the glass. Much less hassle. But then we did have a Renault traffic van which has plenty of glass.

if ur doing the hair dryer approach you can get an inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter that should power a hair dryer fine. Its about the size of a coke can and cost about £15-20 from most decent autofactors!

i did the same thing when we hired a 300C and a Charger and went to Sebring for the weekend for a club event

Take some decent wax/polish and polish the bits you sticker up. (we've realised over the last couple of years that a good base helps for an easy removal). Use lots of water when you apply the stickers. removal will leave no residue if you have a decent wax / polish base. We've never had a problem even though they have never been hire cars. Just make sure you have your loyalty card with you for Morrisons (other supermarkets are available) when you apply, also comes in handy for removal.

Makre sure that when you crash it, before the police arrive, you remove all the stickers. Even if both your legs are broken.

I can just imagine the hire car insurers drafting the letter telling you to poke your claim when you wreck their car covered in "Le Mans Nutter" stickers.

There is one simple way round this. Go onto eBay and buy some magnetic sheets. Buy your stickers. Stick them onto your magnetic sheets. Put them on your car in 0.05 seconds. Take them off in 0.05 seconds. Use them next year and the year after (if not dated) I can personally guarantee they do not come off at 130mph + They do not sctatch your car. You can put them anywhere on your car so if you put them somewhere you dont like, take them off and slap them on somewhere else. Im using some of mine for the 3rd year.

but dont hire a car with a composite body! eg TVR, Ferrari F40 etc ok slim chance of hiring those. Will magnets stick to aluminium bodied cars? been so long since i played with magnets i cant remember

Off-topic, but last summer we were behind a Boxster in the Eurotunnel train. Oh, how we laughed, as the driver failed to find anywhere remotely sensible to stick his regulation Halfords magnetic GB badge, thanks to his non-ferrous boot.
