Austin Allegro, all sprayed up like it was in some old historistic rallye event, about the place couple of years ago now mind. Couple of blokes wearing the race suits, with all them lucky sponsors (Austin Allegro). Well will they be about this year? Or them blokes with the Reliants. Funny in Gulf colors too. What is the event this year? Or is it just a big suprise?

I am amazed the owners have not already replied.

My first experience of the Le Mans Allegros was heading out on Thursday morning round the North side of the M25. I was maintaining a sensible pace in my motor (18 years old and a long way to drive that day) when a pair of bestickered Allegros went past. A caught site of them a few times before the queues built up on the approach to the QE2 bridge. It did not surprise me that much to find the queue was partly caused by one of said Allegros - stopped in a middle lane of the uphill approach to the bridge with a large pool of coolant beneath it and stream rising from the bonnet. I did not see the car again that day as we made our way through the Eurotunnel and down to Le Mans.

The next day (Friday) I was pleased and a little surprised to find that both Allegros had made it to Le Mans and were parked up in Camping Blue North. Sadly, the owners were not around so I never got a chance to speak to them. But they definitely made it in 2009.

I love how as we were waiting to board the ferry, people were ignoring the high end Aston Martin & Porsches. But there were huge groups admiring the Allegros!

Well, didnt think it needed a reply as clearly we had no problems getting there..... biggrin

Getting back was just as interesting - a strong smell of petrol and rapidly depleting fuel tank at 03:00 on the way back led to some emergency repairs (god bless jubilee clips and duct tape) to the fuel line by the side of a french duel carridgeway...

Anyway, heres to next year when we'll be back with three eek Allegros......I dont want to ruin the suprise, but cant resist - the new one will be black and gold smile
