Anyone used one in LeMans before?

Curious as to know how good they are. Do they take their feed from Eurosport? Do they supply the headphones, or can you use any (thinking of taking a jack splitter)

I presume they only work in the circuit?

Had one last year and - not too bad actually and (12 months ago) reasonable value for money if you get one to share in a group. This year I'm probably going to give it a miss - bloody expensive given the £/Euro exchange rates.

Anyway - when you picked it up they gave you a bag with; player, two batteries, (cheap) earphones and asked if you had power. If you did you had a choice of UK/French power adaptor/charger, if not you could just go back and sway a flat battery for a fresh one at any time.

Reception was good in/around the village but got more variable from there out. We were by the wall in Houx and still had signal but don't think people did next door in Houx Annex. No signal out at Arnage/Mulsanne either.

You get a choice of commentary - including Radio Le Mans (so all was not lost if you wandered too far but it does make a sodding expensive FM radio).

Would I do it again - if the £ was worth more than two pebbles and a cup of mud, yes.

Excellent, thanks for the info.

I'm in the Ford chicane grandstand this year, and there's not big screen opposite - nothing worse than hearing about some exciting action when you can't see it.

You can use a splitter with them, I did that at the F1 in Belgium with no problems, and it's a good way to share the cost with a mate (as long as you're prepared to stand next to them all weekend!!)

Current generation splitters or kangaroo tv units? The kangaroo TV I had was last year so I assume they haven't changed them, and the splitter was about 97p from tesco, so not exactly high tech!

The unit, I have a splitter, just sometimes these sort of units have daft connectors like on a plane so you have to use theirs/only use one set, thats why wondered if had changed or not.

I borrowed one last year from a PR guy and thought it was excellent.
Could even choose to follow the Astons and view the in car view.
The timing screens are very interesting as well.
The signal was perfect at the Ford chicane as well.
Not sure if I'd pay 80 odd euros/pounds(!) though.

We usually take a projector with a PS2 but it'd be great of we could have our own live race coverage.

No, or at least i don't recall them as having one as i was looking at one last year with the same idea in mind for this year.

That said Lidle are selling portable satellite systems for £30 this week and the race is on Eurosport...

More transmitters and better coverage are promised this year - though don't know if this will include Mulsanne/Arnage.

I don't think Eurosport falls into the arena of 'Free to Air' so you won't be able to pick it up on the Lidl system - someone please prove me wrong and tell me that Eurosport is 'Free to Air'

I don't pay for Sky Sports but I still get it at home through Sky. I don't know if you would get it with a freeview box though. I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on a £30 system from Lidl but good luck anyway!!
