I have a meeting with the town hall officials and mayor in a couple of weeks time and in the mean time I am away in Switzerland having fun with the new car. Now it would be of help if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve things since this year was very off the cuff and impromptu. The free beer is still on the agenda of course but all ideas, however unlikely, are welcome so I can add to the debate. Let's be hearing from you.

That's excellent news, because that was a cracking event.

Couple of thoughts, and apologies if I missed something which was already happening, but maybe some interviews with drivers of some of the more unusual cars which come and go ? Bit like when Old No.1 arrived.

What about something to appeal to the competitive element among us - something like doing a pit-stop on a car and changing two wheels or something ? Winner gets a guided tour round the pit garage ?

Perhaps a charity raffle for some local good cause(s) ?

And maybe, given the number of people who came through the square this year, the local shops might be able to take advantage of the increased trade - maybe with a few stalls outside or something ?

Maybe find a way of allowing (sensibly paced !!) runs between Mulsanne roundabout and Arnage so local people can have a ride in something different like a Ferrari or Lambo ?? The road is closed anyway, and if the local police can keep an eye on things so people don't go silly.... Again, a few Euros in a charity box might be offered in return.

Just felt like the town had gone to a lot of effort for the sake of us petrolheads, and that it would be nice if we could recognise that in return by spending a few bob in the town.

Agree entirely. I can't think of anything specific to improve things, as it ran very well indeed and was a good way to spend the afternoon smile

Hallo
Whereabout in CH do you plan to drive and when? We are in Eastern Switzerland Klosters/Davos/
Lenzerheide area ;-)

If you are more towards Bern/Thun/Interlaken and the classic central passes(Susten etc.,we just found last week-end
a marvellous little road :-)) going from

drivingSteffisburg-Schwarzenegg-Oeberei-Schangnaudriving-Marbach-Wiggen and then go back via the Emmental,
(which we didn't as we were heading home)
quite a few bikers, but otherwise not too many cars, :-))

We are going definitely to the LMC 2010, meet you evt. there.

Regards

Rainer and Dot

@Tony:

are you going to the June LM or the classic?Last Thursday we went to see a Lotus dealer
in St.Gallen, Dot went over the top with some very hot Elises, but I might wait for
the Evora roadster with DSG ;-)

or hope to see you on next year's Megahoon.

Warmest regards

Rainer and Dot

I would say it was a great success already and if it ran the same again it would grow and grow.

What about condensing it down into a shorter time period so that more people are there at one time. That way everyone gets to see more PHers and their cars. We arrived around mid day and it was pretty quiet, just picking up as we were leaving. I'm guessing lots of people go to St Saturnin in the morning, then into town for the evening, so running from say 13:00 - 16:00 would be good.

Any chance the bar could be brought to the square? Beer tent type arrangement maybe?

I do feel a bit guilty that we invaded the town for free. As stated above, is their a local good cause we raise money for? Raffle or something?

Hi Rainer and Dot! (apologies for the off topic, everyone).

I intend to go to both the LM in June AND the classic next year - will you be there? Dot has very good taste, as do you (!), - a difficult choice to make that one. Perhaps an Elise until the Evora Roadster arrives, huh?smile

I shall mail you separately Rainer thumbup

Already on the list to discuss but thankyou for the suggestion. I believe the mayor has a car display up his sleeve for the 30th anniversary of the death of Jean Rondeau. I am closing down now for the drive to Geneva and the Classic British Car day at Morges but keep the ideas coming so I have plenty to discuss with the mayor and his staff.

I agree with everything everybody has ever said !

I do think you have a potential problem - it is likely to get so popular that you are not going to get everyone into the little square if you condense the time (we went to St Saturnin in the morning and I'm sure that started as a nice idea in the town square !). It might therefore be a good idea to look for a big empty field/ carpark (I seem to remember one of the supermarkets was closed on Friday PM with a huge carpark which was completely empty.....or I could have been mixing my days up)

I think it's a great idea for us to put a little back into the town with donations/raffle. Also, I might have missed it but taking StS as a model, some opportunity to purchase something to eat would be a great opportunity for the locals to make a few bucks and would keep me out of McD on the way back !

I also think that we should be offering physical assistance, i.e setting up and taking down, marshals etc. I'm happy to help out on the Thursday afternoon or taking down on the Friday afterwards (I like to go to the complex on Thursday night and StS on Friday morning but am happy to fit in outside those times). If the town is willing to go to this much trouble for us then I think a few volunteers from PH to help out shouldn't be beyond us.

Also more than happy to run the Tuscan up and down for a bit with paying guests if that idea comes off.

We had a great lunch at the bar that was providing the free drinks, and there were a fair few others eating also. Good food yes

Following last night's meeting we are trying to improve things but not in a big way. Perhaps, and this is up tp them not me, there might be a few stalls there, but in the main we will use the KISS principle. Parking will be the same as before (but working on more cars more streets will be blocked off) and it will be limited to the afternoon as last year since we don't want to clash with St. Saturnin.

One big thing for next year though which I am sure will please some of you; The bar is laying on a big screen and projector outside for the World Cup. Your free beer tokens will of course still be available. Hope this meets with your approval.

I'd say lets be selfish, keep it low key and keep it to ourselves. The right crowd and no crowding.

I think we need someone to run interference for us. Does anyone have a contact at Elizabeth Duke who could set up a stand outside Le Mans? They'd be so weighed down with 9ct gold plated iron that they'd never make it down there.
