Garage Verte ?
Discussion
IIRC, garage verte is a reasonably small area just below the Bugatti circuit and isn't all tarmac - mostly grass. (This recolection may of course be entirely wrong owing to the significant amounts of beer consumed before passing it everyday en route between Houx Annexe and the circuit.)
Just to get this straight - there are two "verts".
Aire d'accueil Vert is a campsite next to Houx Annexe. Parking Vert is a car park on the inside of the Bugatti circuit near the hairpin called "Garage Vert". Confusing isn't it?
Campsite tickets are 89 euros and car park tickets are 35 euros.
Circuit map is HERE

Hi, I'm a "newbie", having just stumbled onto the site whilst refreshing my le Mans memory (thinking of going this year - after a 20-year break!).
I'm with RonJohnson on the "Garage Verte" topic - not so much the details of that particular camp site, but the fact that copious amounts of alcohol and partying at night-times would accompany the race interest, not to mention dull the memory!
I must admit that having camped at Garage Verte on a number of occasions, (our contingent usually numbering between about 15 - 25 individuals) I was surprised to find that using the map (and Google Maps) I was struggling to recognise routes that we used when stumbling between camp, Grandstand (and other parts of the track) the 24hr-a-day funfair, bars etc etc. P'raps I'd have to be drunk for it all to come back to me?
I was sorry to hear that "our" camp site now includes tarmac. When I used to go regularly, it was all grass - albeit bearing the scars of bonfires from various "campaigns" over the years...
The reason that we always went to Garage Verte was because we wanted to meet up with the same people each year from various points around the world. These included a bunch of Krauts who we got on with particularly well. A couple of them owned restaurants in Germany and would bring freezers full of meat in their motorhomes for our barbecues, whilst we would supply them with all the falling-over stuff that they could drink.
There was also a crowd of mad French Doctors who had a load of old-fashioned ridge-tents that they used to join together to form a communal "tunnel" which must have been about 25 yards long! The one year they barbecued horse-meat, which actually IS quite like beef (and was eaten in the UK in WW2). The one thing that they needn't have done was leave the poor deceased hoss's head in the long communal sink in the wash/shower/toilet area!
Others who we have partied with included Irish, Japanese, a couple of French Gendarmes (although in fairness to them, they didn't realise that they were being "sucked in"!) and Americans. A couple of the latter were amongst the last of a Native American Indian tribe. Can't remember the name of the tribe, except I think that it began with an "M".
For effect, when recounting the story back home I'd just say that I'd been drinking with a couple of Marrabubu. When (predictably) the listener asked, "What's a Marrabubu?", I'd answer in my best Boo-Boo voice, "Nuttin' Yogi..".
On that note, I think I'd better go. If I DO make it to le Mans this year, I hope that not TOO much has changed - my Son who's heard the stories would be disappointed... as would I.
Cheers everyone. Vic

No worries! Although I was not focusing on campsite facilities on Garage Vert when making these pictures, but you can clearly see some green vegetation present!

But the campsite is a passing through for people coming from Houx going to Tertre Rouge. Also a group of scouts camp there every year and one of the entrances is situated here. Lots of people passing your tent all the time.

Thought i had lost 4 years ! What's happened to Karting Nord ? Bad enough losing Technoparc 4 years ago.
The Karting circuit has become an FIA approved circuit or some such. Anyhow they've stepped up the game and everything about it is expanding taking Karting Nord Down with it.I loved that place. Sob.

We've been told it might be worth a shout after Karting closing so we are there for 2013. Big setup so it'll hopefully sort us out
