best days to travel??
Discussion
i've been going to le mans for the last 5 years now, however i never seem to be travelling there at the appropriate day and time, normally go wednesday back sunday. Seem to be missing the convoy to le mans can anyone shed any light on the best day and time to travel there to guarantee some convoy action??
thanks in advance

Been doing LM since '91 - Have now settled on the tunnel, out early Wednesday, back late Sunday.
That way you get in both qualy sessions, Friday and the race.
I suppose not all can take that much time off.
The convoys seem to have dropped off a little now there is a big autoroute to use - Maybe time efficient again.

For the past 14 years I've gone via the tunnel, out Friday morning at about 8:00. On the way to Le Mans this could be called the day of the last stragglers, so it's not so much a matter of convoys, more individual cars anxious to get to Le Mans asap. Can be interesting seeing exotics "at speed". There always seems to be a great many police around on the autoroute and they seem to score well to, unfortunately.
I come back on Monday, leaving at maybe 08:30. Lots of people come back on the Monday so there are UK cars aplenty and inevitably you get into a convoy pattern. The tunnel terminal car park is is just amazing Monday afternoon !

Been the last few years and the best convoy we had was Friday lunch time down, where we was in a convoy with 30+ other supercars. The journey back on the Sunday straight aft the race is the worst thing you can do as every one is looking to leave then. One year we left straight aft the race and parked by the round about in Arnarge, they close that section of road straight after the race. So if you are parked on the other side (closed section) you get a head start and no traffic to contend with ;-)
Always travel down on wednesday back Sunday, the old convoys are not as easy to assemble now that the autoroutes are more commonly used however always seem to find larger groups of british cars once we get onto the old n138 after rouen.
Coming back on Sunday people then to be concentrating on getting back rather than staying with other brits however always plenty of flash cars passing us.

Wednesday to Monday for me, where time and the group's schedules permit.
Usually get a few groups of cars heading down Wednesday late morning/early afternoon - best places to catch the convoy groups is usually toll booths or service stations if on the autoroutes.
As for the way home, we generally try and go under the radar and the cover of darkness on Sunday night so that we can get back to the ports, err, promptly.
There's always plenty of exotica heading back Monday morning to afternoon though.
